Coaching changes fallout: Leon Gilmore de-commits, Devocio Butler remains with Rams

Last Wednesday, assistant coaches Ross Hodge and Leonard Perry left the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball program, and now the fallout has begun.

On Monday, JUCO guard Devocio Butler reaffirmed his commitment to the Rams via Twitter, saying Larry Eustachy’s visit made him want to stay committed to CSU.

On Tuesday though, Leon Gilmore III, a JUCO combo guard who plays at Trinity Valley, decided to revoke his commitment to Colorado State per the Coloradoan, who spoke to his JUCO coach. Gilmore and Butler were recruited by Hodge — who was wonderful at landing junior college level players — and with signing day coming on Wednesday, Gilmore is going to weigh his other options.

Per that Coloradoan piece, Stephen F. Austin, Florida International and Mountain West rival UNLV are interested in the 6-foot-7, 220-pound wing man.

Butler, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, will help replenish the outside shooting lost with the departures of seniors Antwan Scott and Joe DeCiman. But, CSU has three more scholarships to fill, and who those players will be remains up in the air like a jump ball.

Pape Diatta visited last week, and he’s a 6-foot-7 combo guard from the College of Southern Idaho, who plays more like a forward, with strength inside.

Hodge has taken the role of associate head coach at Arkansas State while Perry is taking the same role at Pacific. Each school has yet to make the announcement but Colorado State released a statement about the coaches leaving last Wednesday.
