The Club will begin the season with seven players on the DL, six of which are pitchers. All players put on the DL are retroactive to Friday, March 25: Jon Gray has an abdominal strain, Jason Motte has a shoulder strain, Tyler Anderson has an oblique strain, Tyler Matzek is dealing with anxiety and infielder Daniel Descales fractured a bone in his left hand. The club also placed right-handed pitchers Jairo Diaz, who tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow, and Adam Ottavino, who is recovering from the same injury on the 60-day disabled list.
Because the team will start with a four-man rotation the five-man bench means that there will be an eight-man bullpen. Jorge De La Rosa will start Monday against Zack Greinke to begin the 2016 season. While Chad Bettis, Jordan Lyles and Tyler Chatwood while round out the rotation. Jake McGee will begin the season as the closer.
