Houston Texans may be in the mix for Brock Osweiler's services

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport, the Houston Texans may make a run at the 5th year quarterback from ASU. “It’s pretty clear the Broncos are going to up their offer and they do have a fairly serious contender. The Houston Texans have expressed interest and are a fairly legitimate threat to pry Osweiler from the Broncos.”

With Peyton Manning officially hanging up his cleats, the Broncos are in need of a quarterback. There is a deal on the table to free agent Brock Osweiler up to $45 million over the next three years with incentives. Osweiler commented on his feelings towards his former mentor and first ballot Hall of Famer Manning. “I will be forever grateful for the four seasons that Peyton and I shared together in Denver,” Osweiler said in a statement via the Broncos. “Peyton’s attention to detail, how he went about his preparation and his desire to win football games is what I will remember most. Peyton displays how to be the ultimate pro every single day. I am a better football player today because of my time spent with him. I congratulate him on a Hall of Fame career and wish him continued success in the future.”

There has been some recent speculation from ESPN’s Ed Werder if Osweiler is happy with Gary Kubiak‘s system, although Kubiak thinks Osweiler could flourish in his second season under his offense.

“I think he has a bright future, obviously. He did a heck of a job for us,” Kubiak told reporters at the NFL Combine.  “He started seven games for us. He played against some really good people in some tough situations. He played very well. I think he has a bright future. Obviously, we think the world of him. We want him to be a part of our football team. We have a lot of guys that free agents like that. He’s been real special with the job he’s done this year. I think he’s grown a great deal.”

If Osweiler does flee for bigger money elsewhere, the Broncos may have to look at other Free Agent quarterbacks around the league and possibly select another in this year’s NFL Draft. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is not close to signing with the Jets, is set to hit the open market after an impressive season and the Washington Redskins released Robert Griffin III today to shed cap space after placing their franchise tag on Kirk Cousins. The Broncos hold the 32nd pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
