Colorado Rockies to raise Coors Field fences

Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, already had the furthest fences from homeplate in the National League. Today, those fences just got taller. The club has announced that they will raise the fence in right-center-field and down-the-line in left-field prior to the start of the 2016 season.

The wall from the center-field end of the visiting bullpen, leading across the Rockies bullpen in right-center and ending at the manual out-of-town scoreboard will be raised eight feet to be flush with the manual out-of-town scoreboard. The left-field foul poll was already five feet above the left field wall and they’ll be extending the jut in the fence to the start of the Pavilion seating. Each new fence will be see-through, rubber-coated chain link.

“Armed with 23 years of statistics to evaluate, we are in a position to make this change, in a measured and educated way,” said Senior Vice President & General Manager Jeff Bridich. “We are continually evaluating every aspect of our game, on and off the field, and this fence adjustment comes from that evaluation. Every change we make to our process, our field of play or our team, is with the goal to be more competitive as a result.”

“The heightened fence locations will have no impact on our fans’ enjoyment of the game,” Executive Vice President / COO Greg Feasel said. “Our ballpark operations team has put a lot of thought into this addition to ensure that these fences will do nothing to detract from the Coors Field design and aesthetics.”

The fences are set to be installed this month and will be ready for the home opener of on April 8, 2016.
