What a big weekend it was for Colorado State Rams football.

Just two days now separate us from National Signing Day, and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest in terms of recruiting big-time players in recent memory.

First, it was Robert Awunganyi, a multi-positional athlete out of John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California.

Awungunyi has played both receiver and defensive back, but if we had to guess, we’d say he’s going to play defensive back. At 6-1 and 170 pounds, he’s got solid length to knock down passes. He’s unafraid to fly in a make a hit and he has the speed to close on the ball.

Next, it was Detrich Clark, listed as an athlete out of Eastern Arizona Community College.

Clark will bring the speed Colorado State — and so many teams — desperately need. The 5-10, 180-pound burner isn’t yet sure where he’ll play, but with wide receivers coach Alvis Whitted recruiting him, we may just see him lined up wide. If he does line up in the backfield, he gives CSU the ability to finish off explosive runs with touchdowns, which has been missing since Kapri Bibbs left for the NFL.

Clark was teammates at EAC with A’Keiteon Whitner, who committed to Ram Fam 16 back on Dec. 16.

Next, it was Arjay Mantis Jean committing to Colorado State football.

Jean is an outside linebacker/defensive end out of Saint Thomas Aquinas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jean shows good quickness off the ball, solid hand quickness, too, with a swim move that ends up in a sack for a huge loss in his highlight tape. He stands at 6-4 and 225 pounds, has a high motor, never gives up on a play and has the hand/arm strength to take down defenders once he chases them down.

Finally, Chris Gaston committed to Colorado State through twitter.

Gaston is listed as a free safety but is shown in his first highlight with a pick-6 out wide on a receiver. Second highlight, another almost pick-6 as he attacks the ball in the air and then shows good vision to snake his way through the offensive players and get pushed out at the two yard line. At 6-0 and 170 pounds, he has good length for a defensive back and uses those long arms to bat down the ball with ease.

That brings the number up to 21 total commits per Green and Gold News, and we’ll all know for sure who the Rams landed on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
