Rashard Higgins decides to forego senior season, will enter NFL Draft

Rashard has left the building.

“Hollywood” Higgins has finally made his decision. And that is to forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

The junior wide receiver superstar announced his decision on twitter Wednesday night at 7:45 p.m. MT.

“To #RamNation, I salute you for making my time at CSU unforgettable. There’s no place like home and y’all will forever have my heart, but it’s my time to #MakeEmBelieve.”

Higgins is now the Colorado State leader in receptions, yards and touchdown catches; there really was nothing more for him to do at the school on the football field. And, he was more than a year away from graduating with a degree, so there wasn’t much to gain academically, either.

For CSU Football, the loss will sting considering his success the last three — especially the last two — years with the team.

In 2014, Higgins became Colorado State’s third ever consensus All-American, finishing the season with 96 receptions for 1,750 yards and 17 touchdowns; touchdowns and yards were CSU school records.

In 2015, Higgins’ production dropped off. Blame it on the coaching change, blame it on Mike Bobo’s offense not using him with lots of bubble screens, blame Higgins for not working hard enough in practice or his multiple injuries; he just wasn’t at the same awe-inspiring level last season.

So, on Higgins goes to the NFL Draft. Where he goes, no one knows. A guess says he’ll fall in the third or fourth round, but we’ll have to wait until May to find out.

Either way, “Hollywood” Higgins was a true star for Colorado State football. In fact, he was the biggest star CSU had in a long, long time. Dating back to the days of Bradley Van Pelt, likely.

Higgins wasn’t just a great player, he was always a great quote. He loves the game, he loves catching the football and always wanted it in his hands. He wasn’t shy.  He was known all across the country, even though Colorado State isn’t in a Power 5 conference.

Higgins was special, a once-in-a-generation type talent; Ram Nation was lucky to watch him while they could.

Now, they can cheer him on as a Next Level Ram starting this fall.
