I have taught school for years, and you (& Evan) are a good grader (no one’s ever going to agree 100%). I think you’re exactly correct on MacKinnon & Rantanen both, much as it pains me to say it. They both look ‘lost together’ out there. I also agree with you about Comeau, a player I criticized strongly a few weeks ago, and would’ve given Soderberg a higher grade than you did in this debacle. Because of his work early on I would’ve given Varlamov at least a C-.

How does Bigras get anything but F-? Missing his D partner by 20 feet on multiple passes would get him pulled in juniors, probably. Mackinnon absolutely did the right thing in the Kerfoot situation. Z clearly should never sit again. It seems like this team’s biggest problem is their tendency to gamble and over pursue plays. It seems like when they get behind they start taking ridiculous desperation chances that leave Varly and the few unlucky players who are back, hung out to dry. Mackinnon doesn’t push the puck to the net enough, imo and the Avs don’t seem to be able to make cross ice passes below the blueline. Very frustrating when it fails miserably like tonight. Comeau has been one of the best players on the team over the last 5 games, sort of tells you a lot about the impact he has. In all seriousness, I thought he was the best forward in the Jersey game, and has been one of the best 6-9 in every game since. The team up until last night looked different and better than last year.
