Nuggets players react to Las Vegas shooting

The Denver Nuggets and their players are sending their thoughts and prayers via Twitter after the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history Sunday night in Las Vegas.

The team released a statement early Monday morning that their “thoughts are with the Las Vegas community and all those affected by this tragedy.”

58 people were killed Sunday night, according to the latest reports, when a shooter fired hundreds of bullets into a crowd at a Jason Aldean concert from the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Another 515 people were hurt in the gunfire.

Authorities had no prior knowledge of the gunman Stephen Paddock before the attack, local law enforcement said, and police later found 10 rifles inside the shooter’s hotel room.

The Indiana Pacers released a statement saying that there would be increased security at Bankers Life Fieldhouse before, during and after games in response to the shooting.

Pacers Sports & Entertainment extends its most-heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families of the horrific and senseless violence that occurred in Las Vegas Sunday night. Bankers Life Fieldhouse has no higher priority than the safety of its guests before, during and after events. The tragic incident in Las Vegas caused Bankers Life Fieldhouse to automatically and immediately enhance its already stringent security standards which include those seen by the public and many others not in public view. We continue to work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to monitor any threat and will continue vigilant measures to any extent necessary. We do ask that those who attend events here and elsewhere be cognizant of their surroundings and to say something if they see something and immediately report any suspicious activity to a staff member or law enforcement official.

The Nuggets take on the Lakers Monday night at STAPLES Center in their second preseason matchup. The Lakers have not announced any changes to their security policy ahead of tonight’s game.
