According to Matt Moore of CBS Sports, Gary Harris is nearing an agreement on an extension with the Denver Nuggets.

The amount of money has yet to be reported but the new contract will kick in next season while Harris remains on his rookie contract throughout the life of the 2017-18 season, if completed.

Harris averaged 14.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last year and did so as one of the most efficient shooting guards in all of basketball. Harris was able to shoot 42 percent from three-point distance and put up an incredible true-shooting percentage of 61.1.

Denver being preemptive and working getting this extension done with Harris is a great sign for the state of the franchise and shows that the Nuggets are committed to their core and to winning. Harris is instrumental to the success of the Nuggets and the fact both sides are nearing a deal prior to the October 16th deadline shows that Denver is wasting no time is keeping its drafted talent in a Nuggets uniform and that Harris wants to be in Denver as the team pushes for the playoffs.

With both Mason Plumlee, who signed for three-years and $41 million, and Harris likely signed to new deals the last piece of business to attend to is Barton’s new extension, which could also be on the horizon.

The Denver Nuggets are headed into the season with virtually no questions surrounding the team off of the court and all of the focus on making the playoffs. The table is now set for the Nuggets to have their best season since the 57-win team in 2013-14.
