The Blake Street Bombers had a below average August record of 8-12, including losing four straight, heading into Thursday’s afternoon matchup against the Kansas City Royals.
The Rockies, who lost in walk-off fashion the night before on a Greg Holland blown save, were down 2-0 in the top of the sixth when Raimel Tapia got the ball rolling with a blooper to center field that drove in Gerardo Parra; the double would spark a comeback. Pat Valaika, who was in a 1-17 hitting drought, helped the Rox avoid the sweep with his 11th homer of the season with two outs in the eighth inning, delivering a two-run bomb off of Greg Minor to give Colorado the 3-2 lead–a lead Holland would help secure.
Guess that’s why they call him Valatenight.
