The National League’s All-Star team was selected on Sunday and three Colorado Rockies will be going to Miami to be a part of the squad. It will mark the first time in franchise history the club has sent four players to the All-Star Game and just the second time they’ve had two starters (2013).
Nolan Arenado beat out Kris Bryant to start at third base for the NL. Arenado is making his third appearance in the mid-summer classic. In this, his fifth season he is in line to win another Gold Glove as he has been as good as ever defensively and he has boosted some offensive numbers slashing .296/.348/.549 while playing in a league best 82 games. He’s also socked 15 dingers, driven in 61 and leads his league in doubles with 27.

Charlie Blackmon will start in center for the NL and makes his second appearance in the exhibition, his first came in 2014. The 31-year-old Blackmon has just continued to get better and instead of riding a hot first month like in 2014 he has been the best centerfielder in baseball because Mike Trout has been hurt. On the year, Blackmon is slashing .311/.365/.575 with a league leading 104 hits and 10 triples. He’s popped 17 homers from the leadoff spot and driven in 57 while scoring himself 64 times.

The NL’s batting champ in 2016 DJ LeMahieu is surprisingly making it to Miami. The second baseman has had down year compared to last at the plate but his glove which has been golden before is as good as ever. LeMahieu is slashing .300/.352/.398 after 81 games of play. Last season he finished with a career best .348 average and this will be his second All-Star game appearance.

The Rockies will also send the NL’s best closer to the contest. Greg Holland, who leads the NL in saves with 26, will be headed to South Beach and to an All-Star Game for the third time in his terrific career. The former Royal joined the Rockies this offseason following Tommy Hohn Surgery and is 1-o with a 1.48 ERA, 0.989 WHIP, and has 40 strikeouts in 30.2 innings in 2017.
