CU Buffs receiving corps gets stronger, somehow

The Colorado Buffaloes herd at receiver—dubbed Black Out Boyz—found a way to get even stronger on Monday. 6-1, 187-pound Tony Brown, transferring from Texas Tech, is set to join the Buffs.

Brown, who hauled in 27 catches in his two seasons with the Red Raiders, said via Twitter, “I’d like to thank all the coaches who gave me the opportunity to play at their school and especially thank the man upstairs for truly blessing me with another opportunity to play football. With talking with my folks I have decided to take my education and athletics to the University of Colorado.”

Brown went to La Mirada High School in La Mirada, Calif where former CU QB Mike Moschetti is the coach and was listed as a four-star prospect by Scout, three-star prospect by Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports. He caught 46 passes for 993 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior in 2014. He initially chose Lubbock over UCLA, Nebraska, Colorado, Washington and Washington State.

He was recruited by Darrin Chiaverini to Texas Tech so it’s no surprise that the now receivers and recruiting coordinator at CU was able to convince Brown to play for him again.

The Buffs return all four starters at receiver, every major backup and gain Juwann Winfree’s health in 2017. They are expected to be one of the best groups at wideout in college football. While Brown has to sit out a year, if Kabion Ento redshirts, with Brown Winfree and Ento in 2018, along with some really interesting freshman there should be no step back.
