CU Buffs Top 20: Honorable Mention

Over the next three weeks, BSN Buffs will be breaking down our top 20 Colorado Buffaloes entering the fall of 2017.

Today’s post features the honorable mentions. This displays just how deep CU is and showcases their improvement. The Buffs have some big-time names on this list and most probably would’ve been in the top 20 in the past.

K.D Nixon – Freshman WR

It’s hard to put this kid in the top 20 because he has yet to put on a CU uniform. But Nixon was an explosive wide receiver while he was winning a state championship at Desoto High School in Texas. He is a guy that the Buffs could use in special packages to try and get him the ball in space, sort of like how the Kansas City Chiefs utilized Tyreek Hill this past season. He could also be used as a kick returner or punt returner and no one would be surprised to see him take a few to the house.

Jay MacIntyre – Junior WR

MacIntyre won’t get all of the hype as the other three, even four (including Juwann Winfree), receivers but he’ll probably get just as much playing time. He played in all 13 games last season and started in 10. His best game was late in the season against Washington State where he had a career-high seven grabs for 90 yards. He became the primary receiver on third downs because of his innate ability to get open in the middle of the field. He might not put up impressive numbers but he’s definitely worth an honorable mention.

Kyle Evans – Junior RB

The former walk-on played a key role in spelling Phillip Lindsay last season. Versatility is Evans’ greatest asset. He was successful doing just about everything last season, he’s a great pass blocker, was solid catching passes out of the backfield and he’s a very powerful runner for his size. He is recovering from a hip injury but he should be back in time for the season and should be able to take some of the weight off of Lindsay’s shoulders.

Javier Edwards – Junior NT

Edwards has just recently joined the team after spending the last season at JUCO powerhouse Blinn College. The big 350-pounder will have three seasons to play two when it comes to college eligibility so coach MacIntyre might be forced to get him on the field early. Josh Tupou was excellent clogging up holes at the nose tackle position last season and it’s expected that Edwards will be able to do the same. Edwards should play a pretty big role in the run game next season.
