Tony Wolters had to be removed in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s night’s game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres. It was unclear why the Rockies catcher came out of the game but the ROOT Sports broadcast showed a replay of Wolters taking a bat off his helmet earlier in the game.

UPDATE: As expected, Wolters has been diagnosed with a concussion and will miss at least the next seven days. Hopefully he makes a quick and full recovery because these kinds of things can linger and as we’ve learned over the last decade, it’s incredibly important to be careful with head injuries.

Wolters is hitting .360/.407/.460 on the year.

Colorado is already thin at catcher with Tom Murphy on the Disabled List, and may need to call upon veteran Ryan Hanigan, who was signed just before the season began, should Wolters need any time off. Dustin Garneau came in to finish the game for the Rockies.

We will have details as they emerge.
