BOULDER – BSN Denver can confirm a report stating the Colorado Buffaloes Basketball Program has lost two guards on Wednesday. Sophomore Thomas Akyazili and freshman Bryce Peters are set to transfer away from Tad Boyle’s program.
The two join four seniors as the departures for the program. Already tabbed to add three in their class of 2017 with D’Shawn Schwartz, Tyler Bey and Evan Battey the Buffs will also give redshirting freshman Alexander Strating a scholarship. This means two scholarship are open for Boyle’s Buffs.
Akyazili had a really rough sophomore year, getting passed over in the rotation after adding a really nice spark his freshman season. He averaged just 3.7 points a game this past season with his other numbers staying stagnate. Overall his shooting was awful but Boyle always liked Akyazili’s tough playing ability.
Peters, a prolific three-star recruit with uber athleticism, could never settle his off the court issues or find Boyle’s good side. He averaged just under five points a game and took over games at times. He was quite possibly the best freshman guard Boyle had since Spencer Dinwiddie.
Once again this raises huge questions on Boyle’s recruiting both for next year and in a meta sense as two players have failed to make sustainable contributions to the program.
