Replacement level is not 100 WRC+ that’s league average. Reynolds is an average player with defensive versatility, as an emergency fill in. That’s punch that doesn’t exist in most lineups. Additionally, you say not to understate Desmond, who will likely hit sixth when healthy. As do you add Murphy’s bat, likely 8th. That’s as potent a back half as exists in the National League. Blackmon, DJ, Nolan, Story, Cargo as a 1-5? Dahl hitting in the back half? Reynolds as a 99 WRC+ and Parra (look at the career numbers, not just last season in which he posted bad numbers on a hurt ankle) and you see a phenominal line up, regardless of Coors Field.

Right, the lineup should be good in June, really good. But Reynolds 0.1 fWAR and a 1.9 over the past four seasons is about replacement level as a player. His 99 wRC+ is also below league AVG but also way below an AVG 1B. Parra’s consistency is his biggest asset, and we do expect a rebound but right now stacking up Reynolds-Parra-Wolters with any top 10 lineup in the league and you get your answer of why this lineup isn’t good. 1-5 is sick, just no length at the moment.
