BOULDER- On Senior Day the Colorado Buffaloes battled for 40 minutes in a low-scaring affair with the California Golden Bears, finally pulling away late to secure a 54-46 victory in the contest.
Head coach Tad Boyle described it as, “The old school grind of Colorado Basketball.”
The Buffs had to play tough defense and grind that it out, only shooting a mere 34 percent from the field. They held the Golden Bears to an abysmal 27.3 percent.
We overcame some things tonight because we guarded and rebounded,” Boyle explained after the game.
Xavier Johnson led the Buffs with 19 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the stripe. Derrick White was right behind him with 17 points, and he was also able to hit the biggest shot of the game–a three-point prayer that was helped by the basketball gods which was the dagger.
Boyle was asked afterwards what his team would be like without White, “I don’t even wanna go there,” he said. “We would not be as good as we are, he’s a really special player.”
Dominic Collier was incredibly efficient, scoring ten points on 4-for-6 shooting, he recorded three steals and he too hit a big three.
