Rearview mirror. What’s done is done. Looking ahead to what’s in front

Another consideration is the status of the current CBA. If the players (or NHL- though unlikely) opt out of the CBA, it could cause more than a little chaos. Players paying the escrow, salary cap, contracts, free agency and of course the revenue share split may bring a lockout with the potential CBA opt-out expiration date coming in 2020, instead of 2022. But also still a little early to project.

Trying to bring in the uncertainty of CBA chaos into this just makes it impossible to look ahead but it’s a great point. I fully expect the sides to opt-out of the current CBA

Every team will lose a valuable asset, but there was much to be learned from the Vegas expansion draft. I wonder if more trade deals will be done in irder to protect more of a team’s assets. Something too far in the future to worry about, but keep your eye on.

Since Landeskog will be a UFA that offseason could COL leave him unprotected in the expansion draft and then sign him on July 1st?

They can select UFAs and sign them ahead of time.
