Jared Bednar (F-)
Benched Z for no reason against a big and physical team and elected to trot out Barbeio and Nemeth instead. Also, somehow allowed Matt Calvert be 4th in TOI of all Avs forwards.

Playing 4 on 3 I have to question the coaching staff for putting Nemeth on the ice in overtime? When is Nemeth going to be waived?

You should include Bednar in the grades, I thought you did last year/

I can’t understand the coaches management of Z. Is there something happening that we don’t know about?

I think the book on Gruby is that he is hesitant to come out towards an unscreened shot. The Ovi goal was a snipe moving across the net. I’ll give Grubauer that one. But, the Backstrom shot is film room worthy, he’s coming straight in and Gruby sits back too far.

The fact that he had to be ready for a pass with Backstrom on the puck. As a matter of fact, if he did come out, I think Backstrom had some wide open possibilities to pass in that situation.

barberio 13+ minutes of time – Nemeth 18+ minutes of playing time – this loss in on Bednar – these guys should both be playing up I-25

AJ–nice job on the grades. Mac seems to be trying to do too much. The puck is like a rock that has a magnetic aversion to his stick. The ice also seemed to be bad as there were a lot of lost edges during the game. I agree with the comments that Big Z would have been a big “Z” help during the game. There must be some issues that are not apparent to us outsiders. I thought that Jost and Kerfoot did a good job tonight and showed a lot of promise for the future–hopefully. Any insight from you or AD about Z?

November 17, 2018

AJ and/or Adrian, as you can see, many of us want to know what is going on with Big Z and Bednar. Our coach seems to have a big chip on his shoulder when it comes to Z, going back to last season’s opening games…and although the start of last season was understandable to put Z in the doghouse based on not being in shape, both physically and mentally, he went on to lead the league in hits and on a whole, was a solid performer and presence on the ice.

And one would think he would be a big part of our team this season but the kind of messages Bednar relays comes across as very mixed and pretty harsh. It seems if any of the players, but especially Z, make a mistake, they are immediately punished. The interference call on Z against Boston was questionable and could have gone either way, and Bednar proceeds to yank him from playing for the rest of the game.

I think an article with insight on what is going on here would be appreciated by all.

Just my two cents, from what I’ve noticed, Big Z tends to respond positively to getting benched. It may turn out that Bednar is overusing it, but so far the benchings seem to be effective.

19 games, 22 points. This is fine. The Avs are right in the mix.

Luke Schenn, just became available on the wavier wire – I’m thinking he’d be an upgrade over Barbeio and Nemeth…
