The Denver Nuggets have agreed to a training camp contract with veteran point guard Donald Sloan, a league source confirmed to BSN Denver.

The deal was first reported by ESPN.

Sloan, 30, last played in the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets in 2015-16 when he averaged 7.0 points and 4.4 assists in 21.6 minutes across 61 games. Sloan has also played for the Pacers, Cavaliers, Pelicans and Hawks over his five-year career. For the last two seasons, the 6-foot-3 point guard has played in China for the Guangdong Southern Tigers. Sloan averaged 20.4 points on 43.2 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from three, 6.6 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game last year.

The addition of Sloan completes the Nuggets’ training camp roster and brings the total number of players that Denver will bring to camp next week up to the maximum of 20. The Nuggets will have 15 guaranteed contracts, two two-way players and three training camp bodies in Sloan, Emanuel Terry and Xavier Silas for practices beginning Tuesday in San Diego.

Sloan gives the Nuggets another ball handler in case backup point guard Isaiah Thomas can’t be a full participant at training camp next week.

Thomas appeared in 17 games for the Lakers after he was acquired at last season’s trade deadline from the Cavaliers but underwent season-ending surgery on March 28 to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. The initial timeline provided following the surgery said Thomas would miss four months.

If Thomas misses training camp or parts of the preseason, the Nuggets will look to reserve point guard Monte Morris, who Denver signed to a three-year contract this offseason, to play rotation minutes. Morris played mostly in the G League last year under a two-way contract but impressed the Nuggets with his play at the Las Vegas Summer League in July.
