Timmons – the most talked-about 2nd rounder since Stastny? What happened to O’Reilly?? LOL

Dang Josh Anderson getting no love on BSN.
I think a lot of the fans are interested to see if still has the talent after all those injuries.

Defensive defensemen never thrive in these settings. In a lot of ways, they’re set up to fail because the camps/practices don’t show off any of his strengths and with 10 men on the blue line, he probably won’t see heavy minutes throughout the three games. He’s more of an in-season follow

Dickinson led the nation in freshman goals?! But you don’t think he has offensive upside like the Russians? Who is this guy?

Instead of “Bruce Orpik” we should just call him “Terrible Luck” lol.

This is where context matters. Dickinson was a 20-year-old freshman (he turns 21 in November) so there’s not as much of a wow factor for his freshman production. Had he been an 18-year-old who had slipped through the draft once, it would have been a much bigger deal. An impressive season at Clarkson (which is the other consideration – competition level was pretty ehhh) got him signed but he’s a mystery box for a reason 🙂

AJ do you know how we can watch the Rookie Showcase games this weekend? Will they be on YouTube or anything?

It hasn’t been officially announced but expect the Avs website to stream it. Vegas just put it out there yesterday that all of their games will be streamed through their website and the same thing happened last year. It’ll be a last-minute announcement I’m sure.

Or even Bigras, some pretty big hype there.

Bigras got some attention but he was never viewed as a top 50 prospect league wide. Timmins on a different level

AJ, I just stumbled on Michael Joly’s profile. Don’t know the kid but he seem pretty good. Any thoughts?

A little older, hasn’t shown very well at the AHL level. Kind of lost in a numbers game right now.

Wasn’t he the top scorer for the Eagles last season ? Seems pretty good to me. He’s 22 and scored 41G 36A in only 52 games…

That’s in the ECHL, which is great production. I think he finished second in MVP voting. His 19 games in the AHL did not go nearly as well, as he only scored seven points. That’s a 30-point pace, which is a fine depth player in the AHL. Not a guy you want to give an NHL contract to. He’ll compete for time with the Eagles this year and could be a star at this weekend’s games. But there isn’t an NHL future there imo.

So glad to see daily coverage of Hockey, Hockey, Hockey beginning. Now I can begin my recovery from HWS (Hockey Withdrawal Syndrome).
My one prediction–Timmins will not shine as much as hyped. Those of you at BSN, go for it.

Is there any chance the NCAA ever revise their policy on letting their students participate in NHL preseason/ rookie camps? I understand there’s risks… but if anything it would only benefit the players….

I sure hope so. It really doesn’t have a legitimate downside other than missing some classes, which, let’s be honest, they’re already doing during the regular season. So why not?
