Boy oh boy if I could time travel back to this morning when I was enjoying sweet Drew wordplay and no program altering announcements had been made.

I don’t know if any of you watched Hey Arnold! as a kid, but it was my favorite show and remarkably still holds up today. There is an episode in the first season where Arnold hits Harold with a baseball and Harold challenges him to a fight; leaving Arnold 24 hours to dwell on what is about to happen. The next day arrives and after thinking all night Arnold realizes that he can’t beat Harold in a fist fight and chooses to “go crazy” and beat himself up. Harold is too confused to actually fight and leaves before ever throwing a punch. Arnold realized that acting unpredictably and outside of character caught his opponent off-guard and he actually emerged the victor.

There is an episode of 30 Rock where Jack Donaghy relays a story to Liz Lemon about a time he was trapped in an ice crevasse with a broken leg and, contrary to every instinct, had to climb down further into the crevasse to reach solid ground and ultimately free himself from the ice. He did something so unthinkable and against every common reaction and learned that sometimes that unthinkable action is actually the wisest choice.

Now dear reader I am sure you are wondering what relevance these two anecdotes have on anything to which I have to say you can’t lose to your rivals if you orchestrate such a magnificent self own. We truly are the guy tapping his head meme: can’t get clowned if you clown yourself first bro. If nothing else we finally tapped into that sweet sweet Northeast recruiting market…..
