First time comment. Mase I saw Matt Miller, @nfldraftscout on Twitter, posting that Joe burrow compares most to Jimmy G. Just wanted to hear you thoughts on this. Also what can a guy do to get some Breck Brews in Kelowna, British Columbia Canada? If anyone of you ever decide to visit please bring me some I’ll be forever in your debt! Go Broncos and thanks for all the work you do!

Lads! I’m intrigued by how the QB position finally plays out in Denver. Gut says that we’ll go into the 2020 season with both Flacco and Lock, but with Elway you always feel there’s another shocker round the corner. Below are my happiness percentage scores on potential alternative QB’s for the Broncos. Would be great to hear your thoughts.

Brees – 90%
Bridgewater – 30%
Rivers – 0%
Brady – 20%
Dalton – 0%
Burrow – 100%
Herbert – 70%
Winston – 0%
Cam – 30%
Eli – 0%
Foles – 25%
Mariota – 5%

Hey guys brian here. I have two quick questions.
1. Is there anything to be said about the bears defense having a huge drop off defensively. How much of that is vic leaving?
2. Will josh rosen ever be a pro bowl qb?
3. For mr .b
4. Not a question, but made advertising his code sound like a nervous high school kid selling candy for to door for football program lol.
Thanks fellas. Love you all!!! (Even henry)

Mase!

You talk about cost control QBs and i think it fits into my idea of how it should be done.

Before we start, id kindly like to point out that i am a salesmen and not a NFL GM for a reason lol.

I think the best way for a team to win the Super Bowl is as follows..

1. Draft a young talented QB in the 1st round (repeat this step every 4 to 5 years)

2. Sign big name free agents at key positions. (Invest in 21 other positions plus depth) This gives your new young QB plenty of help across the board. Saving money on a young, but talented QB allows you to spend ALOT more money along the Offensive and Defensive lines.

3. For Mr. B

4. Start building the idea and culture as soon as guys are signed and drafted that this is a team built to win. No one player is greater than the sum, QB included. This hopefully gets the idea across that the team will move on from deals that would otherwise cost the team in other positions down the road, and sets the mindset that these guys are here to win and put their names in the history books.

5. Avoid any and all 20 plus million dollar a season signings. (Sorry i refuse to think Seattle wins a Super Bowl anytime soon with the contract they gave Russ. Best QB in football, hands down, but what type of line were they able to put together with the pennies left over from his deal.)

6. Begin the Patriot way, move on from guys before it is to late. Trade or let guys walk that may be playing at a solid level now, but could potentially fall of the cliff in a year or so. (Wolfe would be a great example. Trade him this season for a 5th, instead of signing him and he ends up falling for the depth chart in a year or two due to injures)

7. (Not skipping this for Elway, I dont like him!) FIRE FREAKING ELWAY. This team needs a fresh start in that department.

Thanks as always for the tremendous coverage!

RE: #7… I loved Elway as a player (named my dog “Elway” and I have a life-sized cardboard cut-out of him in my man-cave). I my opinion, he is too competitive by nature to look down the road and build for the long term. I think he wants to win now and will never deliver a dynasty team. As long as he’s at the helm we’ll just keep getting band aids. Much respect John, but it’s time to fade into the mile-high orange and blue sunset.

Sup y’all, the girlfriend got me tickets back in June for my birthday to go to my first ever bronco game (yea she’s a keeper) I’ll be in Houston for what I pray will be one of Drew’s first few games for us. I’m curious how far off from contention y’all think the broncos really are? I was with y’all at the beginning of the year in thinking that we had way too many holes to fill, but recently it has seemed like there are less and less smaller holes and maybe a couple of big gaping boles 😉 I truly believe in this coaching staff and think we will be close to contention in the somewhat near future, maybe even next year. Cheers boys.

A follow up on the Roethlisberger discussion. 1. Roethlisberger has said that he wears number 7 as a tribute to John Elway. 2. Elway was once asked which current NFL QB reminds him the most of himself as a player, and Elway said Ben Roethlisberger. Food for thought.

Elway retired at 38. Big Ben turns 38 in this upcoming March. If Big Ben is like Elway he’s probably not going to be “entering into his prime” upon arrival.

Hey guys

So it’s finally happening, Drew Lock is finally allowed to practice!!! Can’t believe I’m actually excited about practice, but at least it’s in the right direction. I’m hoping he gets to start after both the Vikings and Bills game, because I would not want any rookie QB to play against those defenses.

I wanted to ask if Drew Lock does play this season and he’s not the answer (which I hope is he) realistically what QB do you see Elway drafting? I know Mase wants Burrows but it’s most likely him and Tua are going top 1 & 2 picks, and I don’t think Elway would trade up and use draft capital. My guess would be Justin Herbert which I wouldn’t mind. Also if Lock was in this years draft, where do you think he would be ranked ?

I would like to make my pitch for DNVR for all those who have yet to subscribe. I started my subscription right before training camp this year and it’s the best decision you can make as a Broncos fan. From all the awesome articles and podcasts that breakdown everything that’s happening with the Broncos, it’s absolutely amazing. It’s cheaper than a Netflix subscription and you get an amazing shirt (I got the Von Miller GOAT shirt). I’m from Cali, and I want to make sure that the Broncos stay on top in Colorado sports. Thanks RK, Zac, and Mase for all you do and the amazing content.

I’m not convinced Fangio is the ruthless mafia type. The way he has handled all of the off field dramas, most notably the debacle that is the Drew Lock IR situation. He seems to me to be more of the “Your cool grandpa who tells scary campfire stories type”. Yes he can coach up a defence. But has a long way before he becomes a “Don”.

Hi fellas,

In response to this notion of “loving the guy in the draft”, look at the QBs that franchises have “loved” and selected Top-5 in the last decade (excluding this year’s rookies):
1. Darnold
2. Trubisky
3. Goff
4. Wentz
5. Winston
6. Mariota
7. Bortles
8. Luck
9. Griffin
10. Newton
11. Bradford
12. Stafford
13. Sanchez

0 Super bows, 0 future Hall of Famers (in my opinion) and only 5 guys that aren’t total busts (also my opinion).

What this tells me is that the franchise is far more important than the player. The best franchises aren’t tanking. They’re grabbing a QB like Rodgers, Mahomes, and Jackson in the back half of the 1st round and surrounding them with scheme and talent. So, while I agree with you that the 1st round is your best chance to get a Pro Bowl caliber player, a top-5 QB (even Burrow) isn’t going to fix a dumpster fire. Cheering on losing makes no sense in football even from a draft perspective.

I promise this will be my last argumentative comment for a while. Just had to get those QB thoughts out of the way!

Hey boys. Loved the pod and missed R.K. Broncs being a 10 point underdog even in Minnesota is such a joke. I know Denver has not played good football but 10 or more point lines in the NFL is rare. Vikings are not a great team and like CHJr. said, our ” D ” knows Kubes scheme very well. Mase, loved you on the MHR pod! GO BRONCOS & Zoomies

While I love Colorado, I need to do a little Missouri brag right now. This may cheer Mase up after Georgia shut us out!

RK was on the DNVR Sports podcast and mentioned CSU basketball keeping it within 50 on Duke. The Division II national champion, MY Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, played an exhibition game against Duke at Cameron and lost by SIX! I know it isn’t much, but something to be excited about Mase 🙂

Switching to the Broncos, it is SO refreshing to at least see Drew practicing. Fangio saying his timetable can be affected by Allen’s play concerns me a little bit. Drew needs at least TWO games, if not many more! However, if Drew doesn’t work out, Mase’s man Joe Burrow made a statement against Alabama! As the QB situation becomes interesting, do you think Denver will try to get a QB, or do we need to wait until after the season to know more?

Hey guys,
I know we’ve seen such a small sample on Lock so far but my question is who do you think will be his favorite target when he gets his chance to play? Will it be Sutton, Fant, Hamilton or maybe someone else. I know this might be an obvious answer but I’m curious to see what you guys think.

Flying in to Minneapolis from Copenhagen this week and had really hoped to see Drew Lock.
Guess that won’t happen – just hoping for the best with Allen.

Mase, congrats on game 500. I’d love to buy you a celebratory beer after the game if possible.

Sorry I’m late with this mase, but I got to get this long thought off my chest.

The nfl top 100 teams came out and still no broncos love. The list is full of double standards

Example the 98 Vikings at 38 and the lose in the nfc championship game was just one bad game. But the 13 broncos with injuries galore still get dinged for just one bad game.

And that was just the start the 15 panthers, 07 giants also stand out as overrated when compared to other broncos teams. That were low on the list.

I’m going back to Rick and morty later guys

Hola DNVR,

I can’t stop thinking about the possibility of Drew Lock playing and possibly becoming “the guy” for the Broncos. That being said, I also cannot stop wondering about Brandon Allen, either! What if he pulls off an upset or two these upcoming weeks?! I mean is it too far out the realm of reality? I know if BA balls out, it probably pushes Lock’s debut back, but I am excited to see if Allen becomes something in this offense and proves that the game against the Browns wasn’t a fluke. I know I have wishful thinking, but it is fun to imagine.

Much love and respect,

Hello guys! It’s that little pancake guy again.

Finally hearing my comment read on yesterday’s pod made me giddy as Mase when someone brings up Star Wars.

Got a hypothetical question today. Let’s say Drew Lock gets to play the final 3 games of the season, going 1-2 and overall he looks like a rookie QB. Some flashes of brilliance, but also makes some decisions that leave you scratching your head. Let’s say stats wise both Passer rating and QBR are average for an NFL QB. Broncos end up with the 8th pick in the draft. Who are you taking or what are you doing with that pick?

JrPancake Replying to JrPancake

Did some research and found out that in recent years, the average passer rating is 88.6. I went to Wikipedia to see where that would land Drew if this were the case. An 88.6 rating would put him above QBs like Brett Favre (albeit different era), Cam Newton, Alex Smith, and (Mase’s) Jameis Winston. It would also put him below QBs like Matt Schaub, Derek Carr, and Marcus Mariota. Based on those analysis, if Lock could maintain an around average passer rating, I think we should try and give him a shot at next season and draft o-line at number 8. It is still tough to tell though, because are those three games close to replicating Favre (fun and exciting, with reckless abandon)? Or are they more close to the very inconsistent Mariota (where he can play good sometimes but ultimately can’t get it done) ? Thoughts?

Mase how are u so sure on joe burrow, he sucked last year, is it possible he’s just having a case Keemun type year with the Vikings? The talent around him is unbelievable. Interested on your take as to what makes u so certain and willing to give up not 2, but 3! first round picks… for a guy that’s played one good season.

Hi guys. Sports Illustrated put out a story that Jeff Bezos is interested in purchasing an NFL team. The same article linked him to the Broncos. What do you think about Jeff Bezos as an owner?

It would be fun to see him buy the Jacksonville Jaguars and rename the stadium to the Amazon stadium. People would go see the Jaguars in the Amazon.

Howdy boys — here’s my glass half full on this week. This road game against a 7-3 Vikings team, who have won 5 of their last 6, can’t come at a better time. If Brandon can go into that situation and pull off a W, actually leading the team to victory, then our whole perspective on this season will change. If he pulled out a win against a crappy, or even “meh” team, that would be different, but a non-flukey win this week will be huge.

If instead he goes out and lays an egg (as everyone but Bumpy Buffalo, Brandon Allen and myself expects), then hey! Look who’s practicing! It’s a win win this week for Bronco country, no matter how you slice it.

Seeing as how Mase is a fan of comics, let’s play Marvel and do some “What If…?’s”

WHAT IF Drew Lock has already been tapped as “the guy” and the handling of him is to avoid anyone getting any tape or anything along those lines on him because they feel they can compete with him next season?

WHAT IF everything being done is to enhance their 1st draft pick in an attempt to move down and acquire more draft capital?

WHAT IF when Fangio says “theres no plan for Drew” that is meant as nothing special for him because he isn’t seen as someone that they need a plan for?

I don’t think there is a grand master conspiracy, but rather just separate talking points absolutely no one is hitting on because we as a fan base have PTSD after the VJ era and are conditioned to defeat to “the sky is falling”

Hi guys. Commenting from Hawaii here where we have a large Samoan population. Just wanted to give you a pronunciation guide for Tua’s last name. In Samoan, the “g” in a word is actually pronounced as an “ng” sound. So his last name is pronounced TaNGovailoa. Hope this helps.

Hello from The Big Peach,

First, I’d like you fellas to know how helpful these (near) daily podcasts are to alleviating my commute of 75 minutes. Traffic is horrendous and MARTA has been grossly underfunded and has been the collective shrug of the city for fifteen of so years now. Having folks’ friendly (yet pointed) chatter goes a long way in keeping me from succumbing to the Peachtree blues. Thank you!

Part deux, given the perceived tumult around the Broncos’ ownership, I’m curious as to what each of you would like to see happen once stability is established and a new sovereign is crowned. What things would you like to see change or stay the same? What philosophies employed or revitalized? And, do you think these things can be achieved by any of the most likely candidates: Brittany, Beth, or some bored billionaire? Is there someone, anyone in the world (with the capacity), who you would like to see own the team regardless of bloodlines?

Part deux part deux! I’ve been showing my buddy underappreciated western films lately and we got to one that made me think of Mase! Sam Peckinpah’s ‘Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia’. While watching it, I chuckled a few times imagining Mase as El Jefe demanding to be brought “the arm of Joe Burrow”. There would maybe need to be some *slight* plot and tone alterations to get through the censors but I think we might have a box office darling in the making.

Thanks again!

Didn’t make the comment cut on yesterday’s pod, so I’ll give this one more try…

Good morning men. Haven’t had a chance to say this yet, but welcome to the family Mase! You have made DNVR’s already amazing Broncos coverage even better!
Zac, my man. I’ve noticed that your comment reading abilities have really improved over the last year. You’ve really smoothed out your delivery, and your cadence and inflection have been decisive and accurate. I’m only listening on the podcast, but when I close my eyes and hear your voice, I am imagining that your footwork has really taken a step up as well. I can only imagine that it is all the PRACTICE you have been getting week in and week out on the pod.

This is the worst stretch I’ve ever seen the team in the 30-ish years I’ve been following them so I’ve been thinking about the idea of cheering or hoping for the Broncos to lose that’s been bouncing around. I’m having a really hard time wrapping my head around it and to be honest, as a fan who loves the team, I don’t think I can do it. The best I can do is understand that losing may suck to watch, but can be a better thing in the long run. I kind of feel like if I ever get to the point of actively wanting the team to lose, not sure I can consider myself a fan. Your thoughts?

I want to give a quick shout out to my boy mase for knowing everything about Broncos country another shout out to Zac for the good insight and last but not least a shout out to RK for being cool. Recently followed all of you guys on Twitter and subscribed last month. I found your podcast on apple podcasts and realize that I like this one much more than that nerdy audio zone podcast. I am going to my first home Broncos game against the Raiders last week of the season. I’m from Iowa and I have no clue what to look forward to in terms of activities in Denver all the way to even watching the game. I bought tickets three days before week one and I’m excited about the experience of mile high but if we’re 3-12 it’s kind of a crap game to go to for my first experience is there anything to look forward to?
