The beauty of Andrew Mason does not start and stop with his ability to easily recall Broncos schedules and scores from 19 years ago (though this is a part of his glory and majesty) – it also includes the complexity of his opinions whose seemmto get more impassioned by the day and with his newfound journalistic freedom at DNVR.

To that end – who, Mase, are your top 5 most annoying Players to watch (all time) and who were your top 3 most annoying to cover as a journalist? Zac and RK let’s hear yours too, please.

Love
The Count.

Hey gents,

Great content as usual and I want Mase to publish a book of just the random crap stuffed in his head and call it Encyclopedia Mase. I can see the 2 am infomercial now; a “SEVENTY-FIVE” second plug in between a blender spot and Deadtones 2 trailer with Mase, Zac, Steve and RK making cameos.

You guys have talked a lot about bridge and band aids but I was asked a question by my 5 year old that blew my mind.

With Mason Rudolph playing the way he is, could Elway target Big Ben? Could his incentive be he gets to wear #7? Would you take him?

She is eager to hear your response!

Hey guys,

Another Broncos Fan from the UK here, and just subscribed..

I fell in love with American Football, and specifically the NFL, when my best mate, who had got into the NFL a year prior, asked me to make up the numbers in his fantasy league. I did it as a bit of fun, knowing nothing about what I now call Football (which really annoys the Soccer Fans over here). I had been lucky enough to go Skiing in Vail in the early 90s, so only picked Broncos players for my fantasy team, and decided then I was a Broncos Fan. Anyhow, I was flicking through the TV one evening, and heard the name of one of my fantasy players, right as I switched channels; Javon Walker if I recall. I had no idea what was going on, but by the end of the game, I had worked out the basics, and in just a few weeks, I was hooked, and it quickly became the main part of my life. The only downside, so far, is my best mate is a Chargers Fan (yuk!) and my wife is a Seahag (double yuk!); I am still not over Super Bowl 48, and I am not sure I ever will be – that wound cut deep.

I was an avid watcher of Broncos TV for many years, and listener to other NFL Podcasts, but was searching for a Broncos specific pod, and found you guys. A few weeks later, Mase joined, and it was nice to hear a friendly voice, since then, I haven’t missed a single pod. Yes, Zac’s laugh nearly made me stop the first time I listened, but now I find it makes me laugh too, so much so, I used Z-A-C as my code, sorry RK and Mase.

Anyhow, my apologies to the listeners and you three for my stupidly lengthy introduction (it was 5 times as long!), but I felt I should give an intro before I delve deep into questions about tactics, personnel, ownership, and mangement. If my fingers recover from this lengthy post, it might be later tonight, otherwise later in the week.

Thanks for all the amazing content; you three provide a great balance of different angles, and I find myself chuckling and chattering at my radio on my 1 hour commute to work each day. Keep up the great work. Go Broncos!

Hey fam,

I was curious to see if you guys played football (or any high school/college sport for that matter) at a younger age? If you did, what position? Were you any good?

I was in track and field and scholar bowl. Looking back, I wish I was more interested in the game of football at the time, but I never found my love until after high school.

Much love and respect!

Listen, I kinda expected Zac to butcher my username as badly as he did but I’m disappointed in you Mase for not swooping in to save the day. Ed McCaffery is my favorite Broncos player of all time and I was definitely not expecting that one to go over both of your heads! I was also half expecting a well-timed plug for that CBD, caffeine coffee or whatever it is.

Now to football… Is there something to be said that since 2000, the Manning brothers are the only QBs to win a Super Bowl that were drafted Top 5.

Even further, only 4 of the 11 QBs to win a Super Bowl since 2000 were even selected top-15!!

When there are Super Bowl winning QBs like Brady, Brees, and Wilson who weren’t even selected in the 1st round, trading 3 first-round picks for the equivalent value of a lottery ticket seems silly to me. It’s almost like football is a team sport. Thoughts anyone?

Hey guys,
Short comment today but all I wanted to say is that I was really impressed with Taylor Lewan’s brief rant about his holding calls. I respect his accountability as someone who can acknowledge his mistakes rather than Bolles. Both have been struggling so far but man would I rather have Lewan right now. Anyways I hope if we draft one of these top O-Line guys they have a better mindset.
– As always take care and Go Broncos!

Hey boys. Glass half empty old fart here. You 3 and the DNVR family and Broncos country should get a chuckle out of this comment, especially Mase. šŸ™‚
AFC West Team W L T
Kansas City 6 4 0
Oakland 5 4 0
Los Angeles 4 6 0
Denver 3 6 0
With 7 games to go and only being 2 losses behind K C & Las Vegas, your Denver Broncos are not well off butt they are still alive for the 6th. place wildcard slot and even to win the AFC West and host a home wildcard game in January! Consider this, after the Broncs 0-4 start, in their last 5 games they have gone 3-2 like Las Vegas and better than K C & San Diego who have gone 2-3!!! With K C & San Diego starting to lose games after their hot starts, the AFC West is now wide open. You need proof? With Mahomes starting for K C, they still lost to the Titans, the team Denver shutout 16-0. Just remember, Defenses win Lombardi’s. GO Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loyalty..

First of all, my apologies to Broncos Country for my lengthy introduction earlier. Not sure why I felt that necessary.

Now, onto my first serious suggestion. I love the NFL, but as I see various political leaders across the globe, corruptly using politics for their own personal gain, it left me analysing things and how to make things better, and my gaze has switched to the NFL..

I love this league, and this sport, but one thing that annoys me, especially since the last CBA, is how the emphasis has switched onto players rather than teams. They now look for the most money, and rarely give a hometown discount, as has been discussed on the pod. They have become mercenaries, and quite frankly, who can blame them? We buy players’ jerseys and then get miffed when they leave. It makes it harder to root for individuals, and I was wondering how that could change?

So, with that in mind, what do you think about my suggestion that the league pays a percentage of a player’s salary, if they sign for the team that drafted them or who initially signed them? Or r maybe just a part of their salary doesn’t affect the cap. It would mean that players like Von and Chris Harris, are more likely to stay in Denver. I can elaborate more on this, as I’ve thought about it a LOT over the last year or two, but would love to know your opinions on this. Am I missing something; why wouldn’t it work? Thanks guys.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you Mase, on your ‘sell the farm for Burrow’ take.

History has shown us that regardless of what QB is out there, they need protection, which is why I’m 100% for taking OL with the first round, and the second round, and with at least one of the third-round picks.

Look at this year. Mayfield and Goff are struggling because of bad offensive line play compared to what they had last year. Rosen has never had a proper evaluation because he played behind two horrible offensive lines.

On the flipside, Jacoby Brissett and Mason Rudolph- both who were backups coming into this season, have looked good behind great offensive lines. To me, it doesn’t matter who you throw out there if the line struggles in pass protection.

I agree with you in-part here Dan. Joe Burrow is not a QB to sell the farm on, but there are QBs you do it with, but they are few and far between. Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and possibly Carson Palmer, being the only clear-cut ones I can think of, and I’d make a case for Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford too, but very little else. There are a lot who you would take at No 1, but not sell the farm for.

Joe Burrow has impressed me, I must admit, as has Tua, but I would not sell the farm for either. How many QBs at the end of the 2nd round or lower have worked out? From memory; Wilson, Foles, Brees, Romo, Prescott, Garoppolo, and of course that Super Model’s Husband.

Forget these Heisman Trophy finalists, who thrive in an easy-to-learn College system, from big schools, with elite receivers, playing against lesser DBs (usually), and behind decent O-Lines, and pick one who has the desire to learn, to win, and compete. National Championship is just one game, where these big names can shine; and one of them has to win the game, right? It’s easy to be fooled by CFB titles.

To agree with Mase though, I do find Joe Burrow is trending in that direction, but I’d feel more comfortable watching QBs who struggle a little, and show some stones, to carry bad teams to wins, than these glitzy glamorous ones with big names.

Drew Lock played on an average (at best) team, and beat Florida on the road, and showed flashes of brilliance in games, with a void of NFL talent around him; who else was drafted from Missouri? An easier spread system, yes, but he showed enough to me, to take him in Round 2, and I hope he follows in the footsteps of those other Round 2 drafted QBs mentioned earlier. Let’s see what Brandon Allen does these next few games, and if he proves to be a stop-gap, then get rid of Flacco in the off-season, and see if we can develop Drew. I don’t think we need to see him this year even (although it would be nice); we didn’t see Rogers for at least 2 seasons, and I think you’ll agree that worked out ok.

If it all fails, then Elway can revert to another vet via trade, or Trevor Lawrence; at least he has pretty hair šŸ™‚

Hey Zac and Mase,

Does RK still work here? So with Lock practicing what are the odds he returns. Because Vic made no commitment. The way Elway handles this team has pushed me to the point of apathy. It’s almost like Elway is intentionally trying to destroy this team. I’m still on my stance Lock will never play a snap for the Broncos. Also Mase Unchained, love that take on Mile High Report. It’s nice to hear your real opinion.

Have a great Tuesday

Hey DNVR fam,

Welcome to Minnesota week! Who will be in town for the game? Any interest in a beer or six? What works best Friday night or tailgating?

The last time the Broncos came to Minnesota, I witnessed some Tebow Mania firsthand. Vikings’ rookie quarterback Christian Ponder set a franchise rookie record as he torched Andre Goodman all game long. In typical Tebow Team fashion, Goodman picks off Ponder in the 4th quarter to set up the game-winning score. I’m hoping for some Brandon Allen magic this weekend even if it costs us a couple draft spots!

Miss those days, and remember that game like yesterday. I’d give anything to have them back, although even I, the biggest Tebowite of them all (yes I had tears of joy when we drafted him), would struggle to give the Lombardi back for some more Tebowmania Magic Moments. I love Manning, but maaaaaan Tebow was fun to watch, even in defeat. The very definition of rollercoaster, and isn’t that why we watch this game called Sport? Just another reason to hate Bill and the Pats, as they schemed the heck out of the miracle worker that was, and put the final (and only!) nail in his coffin, or at least that’s how Elway saw it šŸ™

McGlinchey got bested by Clowney. Minkah Fitzpatrick is playing out of his mind. Who will be our next free agent stud or trade that can bring a fire to this defense? You favorites, please, gents.

I think We need one more Kareem Jackson and 21 more Janos and we will be alright.

Hello from Football City USA!

Been listening since May and finally pulled the trigger and subscribed in August. Unfortunately it took me until this past Friday to finally find out where to post comments. I don’t have a question for y’all today, but I wanted to share a story with everyone.

When I started listening y’all where asking how everyone became a fan of the Broncos. Well I feel my story is one of destiny. When I was a kid my grandfather used to take us grandkids to this arcade/putt-putt place in North Myrtle Beach, SC during the summer. I had been there many times and had been saving my tickets to cash in for a top tier prize. Well on that faithful day I walked up to the ticket counter to cash in my mountain of tickets, but noticed something different. There were loads of these plush footballs in a variety of different color schemes that I had never seen before. I had no intention of using my tickets for one of these, but I just couldn’t stop looking at this one football. It was the most beautiful Orange and Blue I had every seen! I could not leave that arcade without it. So I put all of my tickets towards it and a Chinese finger trap. I loved this football, even displaying it in my room where all could see. Come that October my Aunt (Ironically a Raiders fan) asked if I had a favorite NFL team. 8yr old me had no answer. But it dawned upon me that the orange and blue football I loved so much had a team logo on it. So I quickly ran to my room and looked at the football. There under a horse head logo it read the words ā€œDenver Broncosā€. I ran back to my Aunt and said emphatically I like the Denver Broncos! She laughed and said Oh No, not them. I shrugged it off and said nope this is my team! That Christmas I got my first Broncos merchandise, a blue Terrell Davis jersey! Now fast forward 20yrs, I still have that football, jersey and that same enthusiasm for the Denver Broncos I did at 8yrs old.

Thanks for hanging around for that story! Love the podcast guys, keep up great work!

“RD Dolly-wall”

Hey boys, doing a great job keeping the podcast fresh during the bye week. I didn’t want you guys to forget me so I’m just checking in. Just a couple of fun questions:

1.) favorite Indian food
2.) what is the most useless talent you have

Mace (don’t know if my opinion matters) but I can’t remember a time when you weren’t part of this podcast. You have done a great job of keeping the vibe and chemistry with the boys the same as before. Very smooth transaction, thank you Mace.

Whattup guys thanks for getting us all through the bye week with your usual awesome content. I just wanted to comment on the job Elway has done since he stepped into the FO and see what you think. He is getting more and more hate from the fan base, and I think some people need to be careful what they wish for.

As far as the talent being drained from the team and the drafts being horrible, I think it would be interesting to go through all 31 teams’ drafts over the past 8 years and see how many hits and misses they all had. I think the results would show what the Broncos aren’t this team that has whiffed over and over again on draft picks more than other teams in the league. Remember, the draft is an all out crap shoot. You see high round choices getting cut or traded for peanuts all over the league every year. If anything, Elway’s biggest misses since 2014 have been in Free Agency. A lot of reaching and hoping for players to perform or stay healthy at a level that they have yet to achieve.

Throughout the league, talent is fairly close for the majority of teams. The key to being successful is the QB and the coach. For Elway, he obviously hit a home run landing PFM. Then I agree with his stance on Brock’s worth. So we lost Brock and he moved up in round 1 to take a kid at #26 that numerous experts were saying could sneak into the top 15 on draft night. Can’t fault Elway here. Maybe the Broncos didn’t give PL a chance to succeed but was that more Elway or Kubiak year 1? Problem is misses on a first round QB usually sets your team back a few years and that is what we are hopefully finishing up now.

As far as coaches. He made a great hire in Fox. He made a great fire with Fox. He made a great hire with Kubiak. He made an unbelievable crap decision with VJ. Jury is still out on Fangio but to me he is trending towards a keeper. Overall not bad on the coaching front for Elway even with VJ.

Just wanted to get my thoughts out there and see what you guys thought, but in my opinion Elway knows damn well what he is doing and has done nothing close to warrant getting fired.

Good morning men. Haven’t had a chance to say this yet, but welcome to the family Mase! You have made DNVR’s already amazing Broncos coverage even better!

Zac, my man. I’ve noticed that your comment reading abilities have really improved over the last year. You’ve really smoothed out your delivery, and your cadence and inflection have been decisive and accurate. I’m only listening on the podcast, but when I close my eyes and hear your voice, I am imagining that your footwork has really taken a step up as well. I can only imagine that it is all the PRACTICE you have been getting week in and week out on the pod.

This is the worst stretch I’ve ever seen the team in the 30-ish years I’ve been following them so I’ve been thinking about the idea of cheering or hoping for the Broncos to lose that’s been bouncing around. I’m having a really hard time wrapping my head around it and to be honest, as a fan who loves the team, I don’t think I can do it. The best I can do is understand that losing may suck to watch, but can be a better thing in the long run. I kind of feel like if I ever get to the point of actively wanting the team to lose, not sure I can consider myself a fan. Your thoughts?
