The Colorado Rockies finally won a baseball game on Sunday afternoon in San Diego by a score of 8-3, snapping a five-game losing streak.

German Marquez was incredible, pitching eight innings of dominant baseball, making only a handful of isolated mistakes.

And the offense woke up, getting key hits late to take this one with some comfort.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead when Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a solo home run to center field in the second. Josh Naylor added another one for the Padres in the third on a liner to right-center.

Colorado’s offense was stuck in the mud until it got a shot of energy from their newest member in the top of the sixth.

Charlie Blackmon led off with a single and Yonder Alonso followed with a two-run home run on a high fly ball to right field. Ryan McMahon kept the momentum going with a ground-rule double down the left field line.

Ian Desmond gave the Rockies the lead with a line drive single to right. He moved up on a ground out off the bat of Tony Wolters and looked like he might get stranded after Garrett Hampson lined out but Marquez cashed him in with a single.

The Padres got one back in the seventh on a walk, a single, and some creative base running from Hunter Renfroe but the Rockies finally found their punch in the final two innings.

Singles from Wolters and Raimel Tapia and a double from Trevor Story put two more runs on the board in the eighth.

Alonso and McMahon led off the ninth with walks. Desmond and Wolters brought them in with singles, playing another pair to make it 8-3.

And that was the final.
