I don’t know why but I’m more angry this time around than I was the first time the NHL screwed the Avs out of the first pick. Way to go Bettman, you found a solution to a problem that didn’t exist. This isn’t the NBA. Oh, and your stupid new lottery has handed NJ the 1st overall pick twice in it’s short existence, guess you better change it again!

Yeah it still sucks. It was hard to not think about Hughes or Kakko in an Avs uniform.

I’m fine with Turcotte or Byram though you had me convinced Chicago would take Turcotte 🙂 About a week ago my brother sent me a text saying, I wonder if the Avs will take Moritz Seider at 16? It’s going to be a very interesting draft and summer for the Avs. If they’re going to be targeting Hayes as AD tweeted, it makes me wonder what they’re thinking about Jost.

I hope the Avs amateur scouts find us the Makar in this whole thing – if there’s one to be found. I almost hate to say it because his size scares me but Caufield is moving up the board similarly to the way Makar did in the weeks leading up to the 2017 draft. But I also still remember when people were saying Grimaldi might go top 5. Grimaldi never had Caufield’s shot of course. I’m starting to suspect picks 3 on down will be a mystery right up until draft day.

Two tournaments in a row that Jack Hughes has been a bust. Whole bunch of prognosticators saying move along, nothing to see here. Hmmmm…

Even though Turcotte would be a few years away from the NHL, why would the Avs invest a high pick into a C with limited offensive potential?

I don’t think he has limited offensive potential. I think he’s going to be a 65-point guy. Those who are down on him think he’s more like…40 points. I disagree quite a bit.

People only believe he’s got limited offense because he was running the second line behind Hughes. That means however that his matchups were tougher (often matched vs opp. #1 line) and his PPG was still near 1.7 (iirc), which is about what Jack Eichel had his draft year, and is incredible production.

Other than injury concerns I don’t see his floor any lower than 50 points per year, and he could end up being 60-70 if he continues to develop and stay healthy.

……WJC was the tournament before this and Hughes put up 20 points in 7 games, almost breaking (or maybe he did break?) Ovechkins record. Not sure that’s bust status tbh.

In between that tournament (WJC U18) and this one was WJC U20 and he was mostly injured and had 4 assists in 4 games. Maybe not exactly a bust but I think most considered it a disappointment. I was mostly just trying to stir shit but I’m also not quite as convinced he’s as dominant as most people think.

I hope the Avs go in on Caufield…. heard from a friend who would know that he can move the entire goal (no pegs) by putting the puck in the net with his wrister. Be surprised if Cousins falls past 6

I highly doubt Caufield falls to 16, and I think he’s too big of a risk to reach on at 4. I bet he gets picked in the 8-10 range.

If Cozens were to drop that far, the Avs should use some draft capital to move up from 16. However if Newhook is sitting there at 16, I don’t care if you took a C at 4 you go BPA, and Newhooks Is a guy that just screams I’m going to produce points.

That’s why I hope Kalyev is there at 16. He’s never met a shot he wouldn’t take

People are high on Turcotte, so I guess I’ll take their word on him. But man, sure seems crazy to add another forward who prefers not to shoot. Seems like we are begging and searching for someone outside of Mac who wants to shoot. Is Bowers one of those guys? Is Kaut? Seems unlikely.
