Nice job… For the most part. I think you’re too kind on grubauer, the grade at least your explanation suggests a lower and deserved grade. I actually haven’t liked his game all post season. He’s looked like early season grubs (luckily not the can’t stop a beach ball on a windless day form of midseason). Getting the Ws without really earning it. There have been a few moments. OT in Calgary. But most of the goals that have gone in he’s needed to make the save, fair or not. The second goal was going high. I know he’s made some big stops but it doesn’t matter if you can’t make the saves that need to be made. Gonna stop now before I get even more ranty. It’s you guys or my dog… Again.

I agree with this. The goal just a minute after the Avs got the equalizer you got to make that save. Yeah it was an awesome shot, but short side high shooting from that angle gotta have that one.

Z and the 20 year olds were IMO by far and away the 3 best dmen. EJ is so bad I wouldn’t balk at a Nemeth for EJ swap (Christ did I really type that?)

It seems like the growing pains hit hard tonight with so many lackluster performances by avs players. Johnson is hurting the team, costly turn overs in game 1 and 3 that puts the team down a goal or two.. Ok, his pk was good tonight, He hit Kane really good once, he just doesn’t seem to be the dominating force that he is supposed to be. If this is the new EJ, his contract is a bust, at least four more years at 6 million/yr and a NTC. It seems like these long term contracts come back to bite a team when the player underperforms. Is it time to scratch Johnson for a game, put him in detention as someone suggested and play Nemeth for a game so Johnson can think about it…I know I am bagging on EJ, but it is so frustrating to watch. So was Landeskog turn over, you could see it happening before it happened. Bam the puck is in the back of the net. Self inflicted wounds. They drive me crazy.

I have to believe that EJ is playing hurt. As you said his play has been soft and inconsistent. I can’t be too negative about his performance until we know the rest of the story-probably after the season.

I agree, especially given how well he was playing near the end of the season. He was skating like his old self again and shooting more. The more likely explanation is that he has a nagging injury.

Maybe EJ is hurt, at what point is playing a hurt EJ hurting the team? Is a hurt EJ better than a healthy Nemeth? I guess that is why Bednar’s the coach. Yes, we will find out about injuries when the playoff run is over. It is amazing the injuries that players do play with and their ability to deal with a lot of pain.

EJ may be hurt. However I think this whole season he’s been playing bad more often than not. It just looks like an extension of his regular season to me

Lack of forward depth showed tonight. Bednar should use home ice last change to keep the Big 3 together for a full 60 with decent matchups in game 4 and see how it goes. Kerfoot isn’t getting it done and Sods and Wilson are anchors around Rants. We waste the first 30 minutes of each game trying to make The Breakup work. But they’re simply meant to be together, stop fighting it.

A couple of observations:

1. Wilson really could not hold on to the puck. Every time he had it on the sideboards he coughed it up.

2. I like the way Zadorov is playing.

3. I agree on Brassard. Nothing.

4. Should Jost bump up into Kerfoot’s spot? Kerfoot seems completely unable to shoot a puck into a net despite playing with Mac and Landy. Every shot right into the bread basket of the goalie. I like the effort and skating I am seeing from Jost, but he gets limited minutes and usually has lackluster line mates.

5. How much did we miss Calvert?

6. We had the big push in the 3rd period and looked like we were going to take control of the game after we tied it. Then it seemed like we tried to catch our breath and bam, turnover in the back of the net.

7. Yesterday was a huge opportunity to take control of this series. We just didn’t seem ready for it. Like we underestimated the effort required. Makes this next game a must and arguably the next 2 games.

Well they all sucked in this game which means I’ll be better next one and learn from it.

We beat ourselves.

Seems like opposition players hammer key shots at key times when we either don’t shoot, miss or hit the goalie right in the pads.

All I know is that if they put on this kind of effort tomorrow night I’m gonna be super pissed given how expensive my ticket was.
