EJ looked….old tonight. His first step seemed just a little slower than everyone else’s.

It’s been amazing to me how for the second half of this year, over and over again, this team, with all it’s talent, has been beaten over and over by teams with much less talent.
And over and over again it’s come down to dumb mistakes that, as you say AJ, were ok back in November but not in March.
And that to me boils down to players who are confused and have not been drilled properly.
Which… is more a coaching problem than it is a player problem.

And, Bednar should have figured out the best line combinations a long time ago rather than sticking with lines that clearly were no longer working, for, like… three months…

Also, I’ve always felt mixed feelings about grading single guys when so much of a player’s production depends on who their linemates are… or, put more accurately for the Avs:
An Avs player’s production depends on how badly their linemate goofed.

I was at the game, I don’t remember which of the first 2 ANA goals it was, but Varlamov bit WAY too early leaving a wide open net. Not acceptable, and just more evidence that he just doesn’t have it anymore. The AVS need consistent goaltending in the worst way!
EJ did make a save early in the game, on yet another play where Varly was way out of position, but yeah, other than that, nothing of note.
Lastly… Getzlaf is a little bitch!

Here’s a thought, must win game at home play 60 minutes.

MacK, Rants, EJ, Varly, Barrie – F. Playing 20 minutes and dominating does count for jack, when you do jack sh!+ the next 40. How about 29 does something for a whole game when it is obvious the whole damn team is expecting him and Rants to carry them.

Kerfoot, Bourque, Aggazino, Cole, Nemeth, Soderberg, Brassard, Wilson, D-. Passengers one an all. How the hell do you get outscored 5-1 in the last 2 periods when a team traveled, got blasted the night before? It happens because guys don’t back check, forecheck hard enough, don’t crash the net.

Everybody else C-. Ghetto gets a goal but once that happened it was cruise control. Jost was the best player for the Avs the last 40 but they still lost.

This team needs a major off season shake up to it’s mental make up. They are softer than the stay puff man.

EJ was bad.

Jost was good.

This season is a bitter pill. Another year off my life without even one round of playoffs. Wasting the best seasons to date Of McKinnon, Rantanen and Landeskog’s careers by surrounding them with nine 3rd and 4th line forwards. We have also been relatively healthy other than Landeskog’s recent injury. I really wonder if Bednar is up to this job. Making the same mistakes, maybe even more, than in November.

I want to vomit.

It’s been shown, over and over, through the EJ/Barrie years, that the Avalanche do not play defense well. The core D men aren’t very good, and it starts there, as a constant problem, for the Avs penchant to be such a hot/cold team of inconsistency. It’s interesting how often there’s a question of who missed the assignment with Barrie, when it’s hard to pinpoint the problem. The one constant is he’s continually involved in mishaps and there are myriad of reasons from him losing leverage on a play, to being positionally off, to having poor communication, to just having a limited defensive ability and poor hockey IQ…it all equals losing hockey.

Who did it better this season, the Avalanche or the Sabres? (talking about securing a secure playoff spot and then dropping it)

It’s tough and a bummer. I wonder how much of this season’s rise and fall was a function of other teams figuring out how to play our top line, and the Avs not having an answer? I mean either in the top line finding new ways to score or finding any secondary scoring.

Well, if there is any upside here its that this upcoming off season is one of the most promising I can remember… like ever. I still can’t believe the last place team (knock on wood) has to surrender their pick. And they have to hand it over to us. It’s still so… wild
