Avs morning skate notebook: Aggie goes for career goal No. 2

Greetings from the Pepsi Center, where the Avs just finished up their morning skate. A big one (they’re all big now) tonight against the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets (6:30 start, TV reasons).

There will be absolutely no change from the lineup the other night. Semyon Varlamov in net, same line combos, same D pairs.

So, not a lot of news here. The players said the usual things about needing to win, needing to build on the shutout of Vegas the game before, etc. etc.

Colin Wilson and Conor Timmins were at the skate, in orange non-contact jerseys. Avs still won’t narrow anything down on a potential Timmins return. I haven’t heard of any setbacks or anything. Wilson sounds like he’s not quite in day-to-day mode just yet. Jared Bednar just said, “He’s not ready.”

I enjoyed talking some with Andrew Agozzino in the room, the undrafted 28-year-old who got his first NHL goal the other night after 10 previous league games and more than 400 in the AHL.

“Aggie” actually drove back to his apartment in Loveland after the game, to sleep in his own bed. He said he had more than 200 texts from well-wishers after the goal.

His wife, Julia, normally watches most games he plays in person, but she missed the one against Vegas because she had just left for a trip to Florida. Agozzino’s parents had been in town recently, but they, too, had just gone back to their home in Ontario.

So, Aggie was kind of on his own following his unforgettable night. You know how superstitious hockey players are, so maybe he’ll insist on them not showing up in person to a game ever again, I joked with him.
