The Leafs would have won this is the NHL didn’t hate Toronto and allow the Aves to cheat. Cheating cheaters.

Surely the Leslie Neilson ratings soared for the Avs in Toronto tonight..now let’s see if Dater can catch back up with Duchene in the elevator, or an Uber?!

Dater, normally I love your writing… and when I read in the title “…And Why They’ll Win Again With More Regularity Now”, I eagerly started reading, hoping to find a brilliant analysis as to why Bednar’s changing up the lines will lead to better chemistry and so on and so forth.
Instead I just found a rah rah cheerleading recap of what I already knew from watching the game.
So, for the first time with your writing I felt disappointed, although I’m super happy the Avs finally won.
Maybe it’s because I respect your insight so much.
So… in your Professional Opinion, why do think (aside from Big Z and Wilson simply being back) the Avs will continue to win regularly and not be so snake bit from here on out?
What are those intangible factors that you witness from your vantage point and with your insight of years of experience?
Thanks Mahn!

My first instinct, after reading your comment, was to get a little defensive and say “Don’t you see what I meant?” But the older, wiser me can take your criticism constructively. I guess I meant that, yeah, because of Big Z being back, and because – as a I wrote at the end, because I saw the passion in their eyes again – that I believe a lot more wins will follow. Thanks for reading.

I actually value your and AJ’s ability to take the temperature in the room. It is something we don’t get as fans outside of the post game video interviews which can be a little too much read into or out of if you know what I mean.

Thank you

Thanks for noticing that. I absolutely believe that observing the room is a big thing in hockey, and in every sport. But, particularly hockey

Ya gotta jump on the opposite side of this. I really think the mental part of this game is just as important as the physical, and strategy of it. I really enjoyed this read, and I want to hear how the team is doing… mentally. I saw avs social media was getting hit for the smiles and laughs coming from practice. But isn’t the enjoyment of the game important? Would love some more locker room analysis like this one.

I only said what I said because I follow and enjoy your writing and insights so much, Dater. Every time I see an article by you I look forward to a great read.
That said, there’s something about Big Z’s swagger and optimism that I think helps elevate the mood, it seems to rub off. Furthermore, the fact that he and Wilson are so gritty seems to tip the scales in favor of making life harder for the opponents.
Furthermore, I believe chemistry is as important as passion. I don’t think Miko, Gabe, and Nate would have the numbers they have if they weren’t paired with each other. Likewise I hope we see Carl, Comph and Wilson’s numbers go up because of good chemistry.
I hope Bednar sees he now seems to have a really respectable second line all of a sudden.
Your thoughts?

I really like that 2nd line and I hope it stays together awhile. I also really liked the 3rd line with Kerf centering it, and I really liked the 4th with Jost centering it. Kerf looks like a good 3rd line center instead of a so-so 2nd liner. Jost looks like he is finally ready to play 4C, I just wish they would swap out one of the mighty mites and put Greer on his RW.

It might be possible, I just haven’t seen it. As a Leaves fan I’m not very bright. #GlueIsAFoodGroup

Adrian, I also like the ‘on the road’ stories, you know, where to get the best sandwich, local history and the like. Not sure about the other readers, but those stories add color to the whole experience. Gutsy win by the boys last night. You can tell Soderberg has been on a mission for the last few games, you can just see it in his eyes. Glad he was rewarded.

Great write up AD! I was lucky enough to see this one live! Hopefully this is the season that turns the Avs season around
