King’s Deer is a true hidden gem located in the drive through town of Monument between Denver and Colorado Springs. The 18 hole par 71 links style course plays anywhere from just over 6700 yards from the tips down to 4200 from the green tees has some challenging holes with elevation changes and great views.

This track earned a 4 flag playability review. Designed and built by the Redstone Golf Group in 1999, this course surrounded by beautiful homes in a semi remote area gives off a true links golf style feel. The par 3s are tough, starting with number 2 (featured picture) which is a semi island green surrounded by marsh and weeds. There are some gettable par 4s which will leave you a short wedge shot with a good tee ball. The Par 5’s are very risk reward designed with hazards in front of the greens. You can decide to go for them in 2 with a decent drive, but if you don’t hit it all the way there you’ll find yourself in the marsh.

The difficulty at King’s Deer also earned 4 flags- this can be a tough course- especially on approach shots. As I mentioned above there are some forced carries into greens, which can be tough for the amateur golfer. The greens are a little bit of a soft spot at this course because while they can be tough to get to they are pretty large in size which make the Greens In Regulation stat easier to obtain. The greens are pretty ungulated but usually not too quick so an average golfer could hit a lot of G.I.R’s and 2 putt to keep the score lower.

Views at King’s Deer earned the high level 5 flag review. Taking a look at the picture below of the 4th hole is all you need to know. While there are an abundance of different views of the beautiful Rocky Mountains, you may also spot wildlife, especially deer (hence the name) at this property. While there are houses scattered around the course, most of them are incredible so look at, so that adds to the views.

Course conditions at King’s Deer have vastly improved over the past 2 seasons. Writing this review in 2018 I would have given it a 1 flag rating. However, this past season they put a lot into this golf course. Green fairways, rough, and colorful marsh really stand out on this course. The greens could be in better shape, but overall there has been a huge turnaround at this golf course to earn it a 4 flag review.

King’s Deer earned high remarks on value. 18 holes with a cart M-Thurs will run you $60 before 1pm and $50 after 1pm during the high season. Weekend rates (including Friday) for 18 with a cart max out at $70. All in all a very good price for this quality of a course, especially when it’s in good shape.

The facilities out at King’s Deer earned the lowest review from us, receiving 3 flags. The driving range is normal sized, and definitely fun to hit balls at because of the elevation change. The clubhouse isn’t going to turn any heads, however. It’s fairly small with not much in the proshop and a small grill. There is a nice putting green and chipping area, but outside of this nothing really stands out.

All in all, this is a great course to make the drive down from Denver for. Being in a secluded area with beautiful homes and lots of room, I definitely recommend checking out King’s Deer for a round this upcoming season!
