Hey guys hope you boys are safe and sound. The vaccine roll out has started here in the UK let’s hope we can get some normality very soon.

My comment is a very simply question?

Denver’s first rounder 2020

And

Von

For Dak!

Do you take the trade? Finally, do you think this is a feasible offer?

Stay safe

I get the sentiment that you don’t want to draft the third best quarterback in the 2021 draft. The problem is that we have a good enough team that we aren’t going to be in position to draft better in 2022.

Plan A should be to get a legitimate proven starter through trade or free agency. Stafford, Ryan and Prescott are the only clear options there if available.

Otherwise you have to either trade up to get the third best quarterback or trade for 2022 draft capital. Do you prefer the third best 2021 quarterback or maybe the second best 2022 quarterback? Those are your choices if Lock doesn’t pan out. We aren’t getting the #1 pick anytime soon.

Lock may still develop so I’d rather take the third best in 2021 with the plan to groom the other guy. If Lock fails then you’re ready to roll with the new guy in 2022. If Lock succeeds you trade the other guy to another QB hungry team.

With the cap being about 175 million, you guys talked about letting AJ and Casey go, but what about trading Von? With Reed playing well and on a upward track, wouldn’t it make sense as far as cap saving to trade Von and get something back in return? Is there any CBs that could be out there to replace either Callahan or AJ?

Fellas,

2 part question.

1. I would like to get some perspective on Drew Lock. How much pressure are the fans, and to an extent the media, putting on him because it’s been 5 years since Denver was relevant? If he was drafted instead of Osweiler would he have a longer leash?

2. If Shurmur is let go in the off-season do you think Elway and Fangio would get Drew’s opinion on who they should hire for OC. Houston is doing that with Watson on their head coaching search, I get it’s apples and oranges, but if they want Lock to succeed why not give it a shot and see what happens?

How say you?

hey guys!

are any of y’all familiar with desmond ridder (cincinatti) or carson strong (nevada)? they’re both day 2 ish prospects at qb that have really intriguing tools.

it was recently reported that there’s likely to be a bidding war for darnold and considering the way he’s played this year, i’m not comfortable giving up anything more than a 3 and even that’s making me nervous. i think the option i’m leaning towards is roll with drew but add a toolsy day 2 type to compete with him. what do y’all think?

With my comment yesterday I wasn’t saying I wanted to trade or let courtland go I was referring to him being the off man out.

Are we sure that we need an answer on Drew this offseason?

I remember RK talking about this and have to agree with the notion that an answer isn’t needed yet. We can be real about the state of the Broncos. This is not a super bowl roster with a great QB. Who do we have on the roster that makes it such a priority to find out if we have the guy right now? What I mean by this is that even with a great QB we don’t have a “championship window”.

What do y’all see as more likely: Drew developing over the course of an offseason and becoming a good QB by the end of next year? Or the 3rd best QB in the draft being good by the end of next year?

Maybe I just don’t see it with Zach Wilson(If you’re the guy you don’t let your team lose to Coastal Carolina) or Justin Fields enough to punt on Drew.

Howdy Gents,
Listening to your take on Shula and Shurmur. Very unlikely, but in a fantasy world how would you feel about the following?
For *some* continuity keep Shurmur as assistant head coach to help Vic with game management tasks and as the QB coach to continue working with drew. Bring in an OC that might be better suited for running a Drew friendly offense. Just an exercise in unlikelihood

Thanks as always for the pod

“Boy, I feel like a horse’s patoot.” -Chris Farley from Black Sheep. That was my feeling yesterday when you guess laid out reasons why we shouldn’t read into Jeudy’s Twitter posts. I actually fell into the Twitter rumor mill.
Anyway, if Denver signs Shelby Harris to a longer deal, would you get a jersey of his?

Officially convinced the only way that the broncos get a franchise QB is by waiting until 2026 and grabbing Arch Manning early in the draft. The Manning’s are the only ones who are able to get the broncos out of post-elway QB purgatory.

No matter what happens, I think I’m at the point where I’ll always love Drew. Similar to how many people were irrationally in love with Tebow, I will feel that way with Drew. Frick Pat Shurmur for corrupting and ruining our guy.

My BOYS!!! Great show yesterday, that uncomfortable feeling on hoping to lose but with good signs. UGH!!

Stunned by the desperation of people wanting the Stafford type to be our next hero. He’s slightly above average (better than below average) but comes at a high price.

You have to ask yourself who you want to give up.
Shelby Harris?
Justin Simmons?
Jurrell Casey?
A.J. Bouye?
Von Miller?

Adding Matt Stafford means you are likely to lose at least 2, if not more. Thoughts?

Also, I agree CB is going to be a big need next year, but you can get good CB’s on day 2. We aren’t likely to get another draft pick around the top 10. It could even be top 5 if we lose out. A rookie QB costs so much less and we can keep more of our free agents. Draft a rookie QB and let the competition begin. Can Drew save his job? Can rookie take us back to the playoffs? Would make this podcast even better. 😉

What’s going on my g’s? My fault I haven’t commented in a while, I had to take some time off to do some grieving. I still was listening though. 6 months ago my dog was diagnosed with the worst/most aggressive type of cancer a dog can get. They gave him 2 weeks to live. I changed his diet and fed him lots of herbs among other things and was able to stretch his life out for 6 more months and he was so happy for those 6 months. We thought we beat it till one morning things took a turn and I had to put him down 2 days later. I know that people think he was just a dog but to me he was everything. He was my world. He was a solid black german shepherd and he was a true king. I grew up in the worst area of Chicago (or Chiraq as they like to call it) and I have seen and experienced some of the worst things in life, things you only see on tv. With that being said, none of that compares to losing my son. I am absolutely devastated.. I wanted to say that I really appreciate ya’ll. You guys have been helping through it without even realizing it. This podcast helps take my mind off the hardships. So not only do I appreciate how good the podcast is but also the care you guys show and the consistency. This is a special podcast. No broncos talk for me, just wanted to show my appreciation.

RIP King Kado, ya’ll stay blessed.

I read Mase’s fantastic article the other day comparing Lock to a lot of recent QB’s in their first 13 starts. It was a thoughtful deep dive but did not really inspire a lot of hope for Lock. That really got me wondering about what a hopeful comparison would be for Drew Lock. I had to crank up the way-back machine to find a suitable candidate…Brett Favre!
I know it seems a little far fetched but when I looked at Favre’s first 3 years stats I came up with a very similar track.
Favre only played two games for the Falcons before being traded to the Packers in 1992, where he started when the Pack’s QB1 went down to injury. He started 13 games in 1992, had 18TD’s and 13 Interceptions and a rating of 85.3. Then in 1993 he got worse: 19TD’s and 24 Interceptions and his rating plummeted to 72.2. You could imagine the Packers making plans to move on at this point, and that is where it gets interesting.
In 1994 Favre would throw 33 TD’s to 14 interceptions and end with a QB rating of 90.7. Favre would go on to make the next 3 pro-bowls and win a championship in 1997 and eventually become a hall of famer.
I see a lot of Favre’s approach to the game in Lock in the way he competes and has fun playing the gunslinger role. I see same the same downsides of his game as well but if Favre got it figured out, maybe there’s hope for Drew? Are there any other hopeful comparisons you guys can come up with?

Hey guys! I just wanted to tell Mase how disappointed I am that this Covid stuff will keep us from hanging out when he comes to visit Carolina this weekend. I recovered from the virus back in October, and I wouldn’t wish that sickness on anyone, especially if they have compromised family members. I had been looking forward to trying out some new barbeque with him, all the places I know are farther north, so you’ll have to share where you end up. A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about donuts, and while Krispy Kreme is my personal favorite, when you’re in town you should try Duck Donuts. They’re a made-to-order place based out of OBX with a couple of locations in the Charlotte area. Check out their Instagram page, they’re hot and fresh and pretty amazing! If you’re in the mood for burgers, I would suggest trying Shake Shack, next to In-n-Out they’re the best fast food burgers I’ve had. Fell in love with them when I was working in NYC and now they opened a location in Charlotte. Anyway safe travels this weekend and Go Broncos!

I am in desperate need of a peculiar Panthers’ story from Mase.

A bizarre browns’ take from Zac

And a curious CU story from RK.

– something you’ve never divulged on the pod.

I submit this humble request with reverence and respect.

I think when evaluating Drew we need to remember that he was a 4-year starter at Mizzou. This is not common and should be a huge advantage for him, especially combined with his physical talent. He should not be “raw” and he should not be struggling as much as he does with reading the field and making good decisions. With his experience, he should just be adjusting to the speed of the NFL game. It worries me that he ain’t farther along than he is and makes me question of his floor will ever get too much higher than this. Consistency will always be a problem and that won’t cut it.

What’s the logic in bringing in Darnold as a hedge against Lock? It seems like you’d be better off drafting an unknown commodity, rather than a bringing in a known failure. Also a drafted QB would be cost controlled as opposed to Lock or Darnold figuring it out next year. When was the last Garett Bolles like ascension at quarterback? (Josh Allen doesn’t count because he took the Bills to the playoffs last year.)

One more comment directed at RK saying Drew Lock not taking a lot of sacks is a skill. Is this really a skill, or is it because he bails so early from the pocket which prevents him from getting sacked? Unfortunately this also prevents him from reading the entire field and completing more passes.

MY BOYS! Yesterday, I pursued the broadcast maps for Week 14. You always know when a Broncos’ season falls off the rails when the Utah television market no longer shows their games as will be the case this Sunday. The Broncos-Panthers game will be announced by Adam Catalon and James Lofton. I would surmise that they or a lower tiered pairing will broadcast the Week 16 game against the Chargers. The Broncos haven’t had CBS’ number one or two announcing teams all season. You’d have to think that in Week 17, the best the Broncos would get is CBS’ number three crew. Mase, can you recollect the last time since 1998 when CBS obtained rights to AFC games or with NBC when it had the AFC package that the Broncos never drew the first or second team broadcast crews in a season? I think this is another example how far the Broncos have fallen the past few seasons. Peculiar thought and question, I know, so thanks for indulging me. Have a tremendous Thursday. DNVRMY SALUTE!

It looks like Vic Fangio still believes punting at the end of the Chief’s game was the best choice. I believe old school coaches would agree while analytics certainly does not. It seems cowardice (or belief in the D) is in his DNA. Can the Broncos win with a coach like that.
