Great film study. Hope he starts in game 7.

I’d been watching/listening to DNVR post-game for some time but an in-depth article on Gary “MONGOOSE” Harris pushed me to finally get a subscription.

While the national media is (rightly) focused on Jamal’s ascension, Gary’s pesky defense played a big part in preventing the Jazz (Donovan excluded) from getting into any kind of rhythm. As Adam has brought up repeatedly since Game 6, Donovan lacked confidence in his teammates late in the game, which I believe is at least partly due to Gary’s dogged effort. Maybe the Jazz still lose if Gary is off the floor but I think he’s a big part of the reason they were knocking over bikes and posters as they left the court.

Gary’s got fresh legs (and he did look surprisingly fresh and unencumbered) but he’s also got a fresh spirit. The bubble and the world outside of it are putting new mental and physical constraints on players. That, coupled with the physical toll of a seven game series, means that our mans are on the brink. Meanwhile, Gary has had to just sit there and watch the highs and extreme lows of this series. He seems eager out on the court, playing with a joy and lightness that is infectious. The energy and enthusiasm he brings tonight could be the difference maker.

I agree with a lot of that, and in Game 6 you could really tell that Mitchell was trying to force the issue around the basket (not trusting his teammates. I have to think that Utah trusting its core offense like it did so well in Games 1-4 is an adjustment the Jazz try to make tonight. The pressure will fall on Denver’s defense to get stops.

Team low +/- and 1/9. Yet he was essential. Being right is cool but not at the expense of the collective heart attack everyone suffered.

Why won’t his shot fall? And can anything be done about it at this point? I appreciated his confidence last night, he seemed to be one of the few willing to try… but still.
