FORT COLLINS, Colo. — It’s been an absolutely disastrous month for Colorado State football.

The program remains under investigation for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols. We still do not know if  Joyce McConnell’s office has found anything of substance regarding accusations of verbally abusive coaches.

Warren Jackson has decided to forgo his final season of eligibility. And now for the knockout punch, Trey McBride has entered the transfer portal. 247Sports originally broke the news Tuesday afternoon and DNVR has since confirmed the report.

Already one of the more talented tight ends in school history, McBride was named First-Team All-Mountain West after finishing the 2019 season with 560 receiving yards on 45 receptions and four touchdowns.

In the road victory over Fresno State, McBride made SportsCenter with a 69-yard catch and run for a touchdown. McBride also had a monster game against Boise State, finishing with a career-best nine receptions for 101 yards and a score.

Despite only being a sophomore, McBride was one of the clear leaders on the team and had already won over the fans as one of the more popular players on the team. Assuming he does in fact transfer elsewhere, his loss will definitely be substantial for a team that already lost its superstar wide receiver earlier this week.
