Kyle Freeland was fantastic, giving up just two runs in the first, but home plate umpire Rob Drake made it nearly impossible for the Colorado Rockies offense to get any kind of offense going in a 2-1 loss to the Astros.

Maybe someone can help me understand Goodman and Huson’s comments during last night’s game. While Bregman was batting, Goodman said: “Controversy aside, Alex Bregman is good for the game of baseball.” Huson agreed. He then mentioned how Story and Arenado are [good for the game] as well. Trevor and Nolan aren’t cheaters, so how Goodman could mention Bregman in the same discussion with our third baseman and shortstop makes no sense to me. I don’t dispute that Bregman is a fantastic ball player, but it’s too soon – at least for me – to talk about his contribution to the game. Maybe I’m missing something.

You make a very fair point, Laurel. I think the subject of cheating is a sensitive one, at least from the aspect of navigating a conversation. He certainly could have prefaced these statements with something about the asterisk.
During Tuesday’s broadcast, Goodman went off on the cheating scandal during the bottom of the fifth. (I recommend going back to watch this.)
Thanks for reaching out, Laurel. Keep it comin’.
