Florida defensive tackle becomes CSU's 11th verbal commit for 2021 cycle

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Colorado State football is clearly attempting to develop pipeline roots through various programs around the country.

In recent classes, the Rams have added multiple players from California powerhouse, Mater Dei High School, Colorado Springs’ perennial frontrunner, Palmer Ridge High School — and now for the second time in three years, CSU has returned to Navarre High School in Florida.

On Tuesday morning, Grady Kelly, a 6-foot-3, 257-pound defensive tackle from Navarre, Florida, announced his intent to sign with the green and gold. Navarre HS, of course, is the same program that produced last season’s freshman phenom, Dante Wright.

According to 247Sports, Kelly is currently an unranked prospect but does have another Division 1 offer from Rice.

While Kelly may not currently be receiving a ton of D1 interest, it’s extremely evident that he knows how to get after the quarterback. In 10 games last season, Kelly recorded 17 sacks and 32 hurries — insane production for an interior defensive lineman. And in total, Kelly recorded 61 tackles for the season (50 solo) — 22 of which went for a loss. If he can produce anywhere near those figures at the collegiate level, the Rams will be absolutely thrilled with the Navarre stand-out.

With the addition of Kelly to the class, CSU now has 11 announced commitments for the 2021 cycle.

On Monday, CSU picked up a verbal commitment from Gerick Robinson, a versatile athlete that can make an impact in multiple facets of the game. A few days prior to that, the Rams were able to keep local offensive tackle Justin Michael in the state of Colorado. If this pace keeps up, the staff may be moving on to 2022 before the end of the summer.
