FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Colorado State men’s basketball will have at least one more open scholarship next season. According to Jeff Goodman, Teyvion Kirk will transfer from CSU and further his career elsewhere. Kirk has since retweeted Goodman’s report.

Kirk sat out during the 2019-20 season after transferring in from Ohio. In two prior seasons with the Bobcats, the 6-foot-4 guard averaged 14.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

For his career, Kirk is shooting 42 percent from the field and 30 percent from 3-point range. His career-high scoring total is 24 points — a figure he matched on two different occasions while at Ohio.

Kirk will leave CSU having never played a game in the green and gold but assuming that he earns a degree by the fall semester, he would be immediately eligible at another Division 1 institution.

Without Kirk in the mix, the Rams have the flexibility to pursue a transfer or two of their own. Considering the back court will be loaded, it wouldn’t be surprising if the staff looked for another forward or center to bring into the rotation.

Dischon Thomas flashed serious potential in 2019-20 and should build off of that with an increased role next year. James Moors made serious strides during his redshirt season as well. So, it’s not as if CSU is in a bad spot moving forward.

That said, after losing Nico Carvacho, the Rams could definitely use another big body down low — particularly on the defensive side.

Regardless of the position, don’t expect the staff to bring in just anyone. With a solid core rotation already in place, Niko Medved has the freedom to reach out and really explore his options. CSU could certainly benefit from a timely addition but the roster is still in a good place either way.
