Since its the off season…
My quick “Why i am a Broncos fan”.
Being born in ’92, living in Nevada and my dad being a Die hard Niners fan, we did not watch many other teams. Being what 6 or 7 when they won their second Superbowl, i vaguely remember it. However i knew i really enjoyed the Orange and Blue, and LOVED number 80 (Pretty much thought the best player on the team wore 80 because of my dads obsession with Rice. ).
So my fandom grew, my first jersey was Griese, then eventually getting a Plummer one. (Fun fact ive had the pleasure to meet Jake, being from North Idaho. He is an amazingly relaxed dude)
I was about 50% Broncos fan, 25% Niners and 25% Redskins fan (My moms team.)
I watched Redskins games intently, always on the watch for the next big play from one number 24.
Ive always been a Champ fan, probably could not tell, and once he was traded to the Broncos, its was all Broncos all the time. I stopped caring about the Redskins and Niners and only ever wanted to watch my favorite athlete play for my now favorite team.
Being from areas where no professional teams play, it was hard watching just one team, but in Nevada everyone is Raiders fan and i could not stand them, i knew i wanted nothing to do with them and enjoyed watching them lose, being a Broncos fan just made sense.
Also unrelated! But RK since i am a die hard Jazz fan, and you are a giant Nuggets fan, wanna make a friendly bet of some sort on the season series. 4 games to play, division rivals, two of the top teams in the west!

Saturday, March 24, 1984. Shermer High School, Shermer, Illinois, 60062. Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us – in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. You see us as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal. Correct? That’s the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed.

3 hour pod! You guys are crazy. It’s been super difficult to keep up with these long pods! Not complaining, just saying.
Question about your sake drinking endeavors RK, do you shoot your sake or sip it? As a former head chef at a sushi restaurant in Montana I have to say, it is so frustrating watching people shoot good sake. It’s meant to be enjoyed like a glass of wine, in fact it’s quite enjoyable out of a wine glass! Next time you go to a sushi restaurant ask for a wine glass with your sake, you won’t regret it!
On to football, if we were to aquire Chris Jones and let Gotsis, Wolfe and Harris go how would you feel about our line next year. Our staring line would be Jones Purcell and Jones which would be good but not really any depth behind those three. What do y’all think?
Haven’t commented in a while but literally have never stopped listening, you guys rock.
PS good luck with the influx of pronunciation guides with all these fringe inappropriate new names lol. Mike Hawk, York hawk, Hugh G. Rection are just the beginning. Much love!
The Big T
Just about to start the 3 hour mega-pod. Wow. Good stamina guys.
Didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, so posting now.
No, Marmite isn’t made of Mites ? It’s made from Yeast Extract, a by-product of beer brewing. It’s vegetarian and almost black in colour. You have it on toast usually, with butter and thinly spread. Great in a cheese sandwich too, or in soups and stews.
Needed Mase on the pod; Antipodean (pronounced an-tip-ud-ian) is someone from New Zealand or Australia, think it literally means opposite side of the world.
Anyhow, I’ll send you some Marmite somehow, maybe sent from a British Ex-Pat online store or something, and you can try it out. There’s a phrase in the UK “you either love it or you hate it”, as 50% find it revolting and the other half love it. I reckon we have a good shot one of you will, hopefully.
Take care

If you email me your DNVR address, I will send over a Marmite pack for you to try.

Let this day go down in DNVR history. Now on to the 4 hour podcast and beyond!
1. Now on to the Joe Burrow. If the Bengals don’t like the fact the way he acted after the championship(which is his decision to do anyway) and wanted to go Herbert with the 1st pick would that help the broncos with getting people like Ruggs, Jeudy, or Wirfs?
2. I’ve been seeing some mock drafts where all the Broncos get are defensive players(edge and defensive linemen mostly). Do you think we would actually take defense in the first round or still trade down to get someone in the late rounds?
Also thanks for saying my last name right. I always hear it called wrong for years and Mase said it right the 1st time. As always have a good day
Asking for a friend
For mase Because he will say the name correctly.
And here is a little script for everyone:
RK: here’s the thing
Mase: *75
Zac: laughter
Newman: bye bye jerry
Kramer: Giddy up!
Just to get in the daily quota
Thank you for all your work, I feel pointless asking questions you guys answer during the pod lol
Mr.Undrafted
So talking about going Tackle in the 1st round. We know 72 has been struggling, so what are the chances he can be the swing tackle and cover RT when James does get hurt? We could get the best Tackle at that point and not worry about which side fits that player the best. It would limit the time 72 is on the field which cuts down his penalties.
Wesley
Hey guys,
Mostly commenting to just share a story – my wife worked at a hotel for a number of years and one night checked in a man named Harrison Richard Ryder. On his State ID and in person he shortened his first name to Harry, and used the classic nickname for “Richard” – *Dick*.
So this man (by his own choice) went by Harry Dick Ryder.
Anyways, RK…I understand why you might be uncomfortable with JJ Watt’s throbbing shtick in Denver… But I do think it would be a good gamble if we can’t get a top guy.
Also..
Marmite is terrible. Lived in Brisbane (Brizbin) for around a year and I got used to it..but it’s just salty and weird. But it is certainly a unique taste – much like Molē…just a weird flavor that is good to some. (Molē = Spicy Chocolate Chicken)
Oh, and a tamale can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Maybe not a typical food for Americans, but it’s certainly an all day meal.
Well, love the pod guys, you make my route as a pool cleaner far more enjoyable. Have a great day.
The Big T
If you were in Brisbane it was likely to be Vegemite and not Marmite. I think of it as a Salty Concentrated Beer Spread, yum! Salty Yeasty Goodness. Goes great with a beer too, and a great midnight snack (with another beer) 😀
thesandeyman
Been looking at the DT market this off season and have read articles that both Callais Campbell and JJ Watt could be cap casualties. Both have connections to Denver. JJ would love to be re connected with his favorite coach, the bear wrestler. Would you have interest in these guys and how much would you pay each one assuming they were cut.
Iceman
Hey friends. M-A-S-E, welcome home kid! Thanks for the draft updates. So DNVR kids, I’m putting on my tin foil hat for this question. Did Vic fire Rich because he told him the Broncos were going to keep Joe as the backup and Scangs said quote, ” No way in hell as long as I’m your O.C.? ” Let’s all try to remember, Elway only became the Broncs GM because Mr. B. asked him to @ a dinner. John never wanted to be a coach, scout or GM, his desire has always been to be an NFL owner after his playing days.
GO ZAC/RYAN/BRONCOS/DREW/DNVR kids and young ladies!!! 🙂
BroncoBornBroncoBred
Wow… I don’t remember who said it but I’m really starting to come around to the fact that Joe Burrow might be content. Every video I see and the interview I heard on pardon my take after the natty just makes me think that Joe Burrow isn’t going to have the fire to be successful at the next level. He has a way about him that is what you see in videos of Joe Namath after winning the super bowl. I’m curious to see how he does after he loses a receiving Corp that is more talented than Cincy at the moment (AJ Green not included)
Chad the Man
Hey fellas,
Hope you all are having a great day. Is there a superstitious habit that you have created on Broncos game days? I know you guys have talked about how being media members has made you less emotional about the Broncos, but my question has to do with before you became media members. For me, if the Broncos are doing well when I am watching them in my bedroom, I won’t leave to watch the game in the living room.
Onion Booty Bronco
Hey, here’s a question for ya… is poop a sandwich?
Broncossuperfan
Some context about my comment. I’m 40 years old and a Master Chief in the US Navy. I completely disagree with the stance that the Louisiana cops should have turned a blind eye to the LSU players smoking and possibly underage drinking. This thought is why players like AB, OBJ and Mayfield act like idiots because they think rules and laws don’t apply to them. Everyone needs to be held to the same standard. Love listening to you everyday here in San Diego. Keep up the great work and thank you for introducing me to Breck Brews. Vanilla Porter is all I have found out here but it is great.
Milehighmagic94
Was thinking about changing my user name to one of my favorite QBs Chad Kano…..nevermind. Calling my shot here, next year Bolles takes the leap and is a top ten tackle in the nfl. call me crazy but the last 5 weeks with Drew lock at the helms he was the 2nd highest graded tackle in the nfl. Didn’t have a ton of penalties either. I think with locks mobility and munchaks coaching he pulls it together. Also fans and media bash him (mase pretty much called him stupid yesterday)but I think he is liked in the locker room he was on almost every episode of K-jack TV, von miller said “believe it or not Bolles is my dude” and if you watch highlight tapes he is almost always the first one to come and celebrate with his team mates. The guy plays with passion for better or worse. What are your guy’s thoughts on his potential next year?
Lovethunderdownunder
Holy shit introducing Mase to the great Sandwich debate was Oscar winning podcasting. You know it’s good when you start laughing loudly and then shaking in restraint, in public…
Damn good pod.
Lovethunderdownunder
Oh man what a pod.
Mase coming in with the new name, similar to Phil Asio. My god I was in stitches.
Russway Johnson
Best one season show for my money is HBO`s Rome first season. It was a joint production with the BBC.I think you’ll notice how the showrunners for Game of Thrones were inspired by that show. Rome was canceled because it was so expensive. The second season was filmed after they knew it was being canceled and I think that vibe ruined the second season.
MarkITsnatch
Hey guys!
Now that you’re all back, there’s something I’ve been curious about. All three of you have been invested in the broncos in varying degrees for a longtime, as a fan, as an employee, as a beat writer, etc. How do you each maintain objectivity and keep your biases in check when reporting on the same team day in and day out?
About a month ago, you guys joked about the Panthers trading up to get Joe Burrow, assuming they’d hire Joe Brady. Well boys, you’re halfway there. Is Carolina living on a prayer?
MarkITsnatch
Oh, and one other thing:
All last season, off-season, and preseason, we had concerns with Connor McGovern hiking the ball low in shotgun. And the team just brought in an OC that prefers to work in shotgun. Are you comfortable enough with the progress McGovern made this year, and keep him at center, or do they look for a new center, and move him to right guard?
dan birk
Should we be (more) worried for Garrett Bolles now that Bill Lazor is in Chicago?
Another idea for backup QB-Trevor Siemien. Not only would he be a cheaper option (I really don’t like the idea of our backup making more than twice our starter) but he is also familiar with the organization and was a Pro Bowl caliber QB (He got invited so end of argument?)under better coaching (Kubiak). Plus those with Siemien jerseys can bring them back. Also I keep hearing the name Foles. Mase, put this to rest for good. Anyone that looks at Foles contract would understand he is not going anywhere. Dead money would be massive at $34m, 2020 salary guaranteed at $15m. We have heard Mariota, who is your black horse candidate for backup QB preferably with experience? Also lets bring in AB and OBJ to form the best (and most offensive in multiple ways) WR threat ever.???
End of rant-Keep up the great work. Thanks for the pods.
LONESTAR BRONCO
Hey guys
I am out on the JJ Watt thing I am tired of bringing players who can’t stay on the field. Chris Jones or arik armstead all the way.
I am also growing very sour on burrow as a prospect he’s fantastic but his face is becoming very punchable.
The crying really kicked in for me around 23 (4 years ago). The show that gets me the most is under cover boss. Seeing needy people be blessed is a soft spot for me. Please don’t tell me, if it’s fake I don’t wanna know.
All the Taco Bell talk is killing me, I am currently cutting weight as I have CrossFit competitions and spartan races coming up and I all I want is a damn quesarito thanks guys ?
Love the content, love the people, DNVR is heaven for an out of market fan!
LONESTAR BRONCO
Also, I’m all for OBJ getting in trouble. To paraphrase Mase, you have to penalize stupidity.
If you or I had done that to a cop we most likely would’ve been tackled tased and arrested. I’m sure it’s all about money but what if the video made the police chief think “we have to hold people accountable the public can’t think these actions are okay.”
MrFreeze
I didn’t particularly like Obj’s body language. Giving someone a smack on the butt in celebration is not what this was. He wanted a reaction. He seemed like he wanted a fight.
Count Bridgeula
Mase Burner account ? That accusation may be the greatest compliment I’ve ever been privy to receive. Thanks

When I was a wee lad about 5 years of age, my dad (a Giants fan) took me and my brother to Denver to get Randy Gradishar’s autograph. With that and the back to back Super Bowl wins the team got that year and the next, I was a Bronco for life. It is a travesty that Randy has been kept out of the HoF for this long.
I feel like vegemite is more of an avocado green color and marmite sounds like that brownish liquid gunk that seeps out of the end of the blunt onto your lip, yall know what I’m talking about (elbow nudge).
Anyways I just got a “breakfast sandwich” sausage egg and cheese biscuit from Sheetz (a gas station similar but inferior to Wawa) and when I got it I thought this is more of a slider. Is size a factor when defining a sandwich? As in are sliders sandwiches? I would still consider them a sandwich in nature but I’m just mad about how small this “sandwich” was and needed to vent. You should still not label something a sandwich if it’s slider sized ?
el bronco gordo
Crying to movies (sans Mase), how about crying to sports moments? For me, 92 Olympics 200m Final, British sprinter blows a hammy and his dad comes out of the stands to walk him across the finish line. Blubbering like a whale.
BroncoBornBroncoBred
For the breakfast lunch and dinner argument: the hangover burger. Which is a burger with egg and bacon and sometimes chili as well
Mr.Undrafted
What do you guys think about adding a Wr #2 like Breshad Perriman? I feel we can get him at a good vaule and then whoever we draft can come in and play in the slot since we need a speed WR anyways. Yes that does knock hamilton to the 4th spot but he seems to struggle catching anyways.
I know you guys want Chris jones and so do I but what about a guy like Michael Brockers or Leonard Williams? And what would the cost difference be between the 3 of them?
Taco Bell is easily the guiltiest of guilty pleasures. The cheesy gordita crunch is my go-to. So good.
Looking at the draft, would you guys prefer Isaiah Simmons on the defensive side of the ball or a guy like Ruggs/Higgins at 15? Logically I like the idea of a WR, but Simmons is so versatile on defense it would be tough to pass up, given the depth at WR.
BroncoBornBroncoBred
Do y’all really have to be talking about Hawaiian food??? I was born there and stand by it being some of the best food out there. Ryan you were talking about Chicken Katsu. You were also talking about Spam Musabi, it’s a large cube of sticky rice with spam on top, wrapped seaweed with what I believe is katsu sauce but honestly I never asked questions about the sauce I just enjoyed. If y’all are ever in Dallas let me know and I’ll tell you the best places for Hawaiian bbq here
Steve_Atwater_HOFer
Mase, since it’s the offseason we can get your take on the great straw debate….Can you let Lou Sassles know your answer, one hole or two holes?
SwedishBronco
I know I’m not American and our food culture is different but seriously guys, Peanut and Jelly sandwiches doesn’t work as breakfast, lunch nor dinner. If anything it’s a snack you eat because it tastes marvelous. Especially when made on white bread it’s like eating air, very tasty air, but still air. I agree more with the omelet point. It’s not forced into any single category and still works perfectly but in the morning, lunch and evening.
And the best peanut butter is crunchy peanut butter without added sugar. We got a Danish brand sold in sweden which is the most amazing product made by mankind.
SwedishBronco
Oh and I forgot, if you haven’t, watch The Witcher. Best TV series I’ve seen since Breaking Bad. The swordfighting scenes are a work of art. So beautiful.

Hey DNVR fam!
How has nobody used the username Oliver Closehoff yet?
Hit up the DNVR merch people and tell them we need a tshirt with a monster wearing a #3 Jersey and the shirt says
“LOCK-NESS MONSTER”
thanks for all of the amazing content as always.
tmeeks
Well Mase, where did you end up going to lunch yesterday?
Albino Rhino
Guys!
Shout out to Lou Sassles its a great feeling to get to know you!
Zac, if you don’t like food touching can you even eat a burrito? Or a PB&J?
RK, just wait until you have children then the waterworks come twice as much especially when you see something with kids in a movie… How do you do with the ASPCA commercials where Sara Mclanahan songs play while looking at the poor animals?
Mase, is there anywhere haven’t lived in the contiguous US?
For my user name I almost went with Heywood Jablomey but Mike Hawk came in and hit it on the head.
I am a KU alum living in the Big apple just makes Yorkhawk perfect (Born and raised in Denver though)
Actual Broncos questions, any chance of landing Clowney for relatively cheap?
What if you skipped DT and kept your line basically as is (Purcell, Wolfe (6.5), Harris (9), Jones) with Von and Chubb. Sign Simmons (15), CHJ (13), Byron Jones (14?)
22.5 left 11.5 after draft class. You then have CHJ, B. Jones, Callahan as CB’s with Bausby and Harris as depth. Simmons and Jackson, with Davis and Alexander Johnson. Your coverage on the back end would cause a lot of holding onto the ball and Von and Chubb should feast and Simmons and Jackson can play the box to stop the run because you trust your CB’s in man coverage. Seems like a hell of a D to me and Draft can be almost exclusively offense (sprinkle in D depth)
Thoughts?
DeBallZach
After reading Zac’s article of who Shurmur might bring in FA, I am down for Alex Tanney as the backup QB. He is a great dude from what I hear and I went to the same school as him (Monmouth College, IL, which is DIII). He also has an awesome trick shot video on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxDJb03a0yo
He has bounced around the league and last year made the team(NYG) as a third qb, over a younger guy/higher draft pick in Lauletta. I think he should get a shot to compete for backup spot and would be super cheap. No real reason other than it would be cool to see him on my favorite team.
TrueChampFan24
Hitting that double comment, sorry!
Ya’ll talked about the switch that flipped.
My daughter was born on November 14th 2018. She was born with her lungs completely glued shut from a substance that basically is the babies first stool after being born, or during labor. Unfortunately there was complications during birth and she swallowed all of it, gluing her lungs shut. Her heart beat raced to up over 200 BPM and was life flighted to Sacred Heart in Spokane. My Girlfriend had a terrible reaction during labor and was stuck at the Hospital we were at to recover, never having got to see her daughter. I raced to Spokane to go be by my babies side, when i arrived i was told to make a decision, keep her on life support, or pull the plug. Here i am 26 years old, everyone around me was crying and losing their minds.
I had a choice to make, before that i would have been one of the ones crying, losing my sh**, but not now, not all the sudden. I stayed calm, thought for a brief moment. Sarah was going to be at KMC for 3-4 days to recover, my child laying on life support, a machine breathing for her, would be here. The two never having seen one another. I couldn allow that to happen. I chose to keep her on life support knowing full well she may never recover.
Throughout the course of the week she made little benchmarks, little milestones, and momma was ready to come meet her.
By some miracle, our little Bean made a full recovery. They told us she would be mentally disabled, she would have trouble developing. all these obstacles lay ahead.
Fast forward 14 months. Carolann Bryce Sholey (C.B like champ lol ) is completely healthy, and has no long standing issues. She has no development problems or mental defects. I know Zac follows me on the Insta, and he could tell you as i know he likes many of the pictures and videos i post of her, shes a happy little Bean!
There was one night in my life that made my emotional flip switch. I still cry during remember the titans, like a big ole baby, but i also found a strength and will i never knew i had.
Sorry for the book, love yall! Love DNVR, a fan for life..

What’s up my dudes?
I have a couple questions and one concern.
1. You guys talked about the need for speed on offense when Rich Scangarello was our OC because the west coast just requires a speed guy to pair with the big, physical receiver. Does the new offense change our needs there? Would Laviska then be our top fit assuming both players are on the board at 15?
2. My brother is in school right now and wants to be a park ranger. Almost all his classes are dedicated to nature studies, survival skills, and he is required to hike and camp…
A lot.
Because of this he is always making foods that are odd but come from the environment he is living in. Recently he discovered that he can deep fry dandelions and flower petals to make an incredible combination of flower chips and dandelion bits. He calls them front yard fryers. Would you be interested in trying these?
3. Mr Bowlen
4. I am fully on board with the Broncos chances at a run for the playoffs next year but I’m concerned that Denver won’t focus enough into building depth on the roster. If you guys are right then Elway will bring in all these big name free agents and draft picks to play for the Broncos but won’t target o line depth or depth in the secondary. It worries me. Thoughts?
Have the best day of your life.

Glad to see the offseason food talk has picked up right where it left off last offseason, and would like to throw in my two cents… As far as burritos go, you can’t beat Pancheros, I know it’s been brought up before but the fresh pressed tortilla makes the whole burrito… Also my top 5 pop-tart flavors (have to agree with Mase)
1. Blueberry
2. Strawberry
3. Brown Sugar
4. S’mores
5. Wild Berry
Now to the Broncos… What do you think the starting O-Line will look like in 2020? I personally think it will be
LT- Bolles LG- Risner C-McGovern RG- 2020 rookie LT- Juwan James
MillerLite602
Glad to have you back Mase! I saw something on social media today that said every one of the main coaches on the staff have at least 20 years of experience coaching in the league and are coaching one of the leagues youngest teams. That being said, what are your guys predictions of the broncos record for next year? ( with incoming FA’s and if we hit on our draft picks). Keep it up boys and have a good weekend!
Bronco_in_SD
This discovery of what makes a sandwich is genius. Can anyone think of a solid rebuttal?
For the draft, I think the key teams in front of us are Chargers, Raiders, Bucs, and Colts. Those are the teams that I could see taking a WR. What makes this interesting to me is that I could also see them taking a QB. This could push Jeudy or Ceedee down to us. What are the chances Herbert, Love, or other top picks push down one of the top WRs?
Crash
Going to be in Denver in August. When is the DNVR open?
Shaggymcloviniii
Hey guys,
So last night I had a dream where I was at a game in Denver. Somehow I was on the sidelines chilling on the bench with Lindsay , Shenault, and Winfree. All had big games and we were killing the patriots! What was weird is only these 3 were not in bronco uniforms but the Gold and black uniforms from CU! Weird but was awesome in a dream. Even though they couldn’t bring a championship to Colorado in school it would be amazing if they could do it in the NFL! Also does bringing in Pat Shurmur help develop Winfree? Could he fit better in that system?
tatortottom
What are your typical weekend plans when you aren’t covering a game?

Just here to add to the comment count 🙂

Thank you Zac for calling out OBJ’s actions. Ryan, while I understand what you’re saying about letting the kids party, there are rules for a reason, and that security officer was hired to do a job and uphold those rules. I don’t care who it is, they can’t just let people start smoking and endorse possible underage drinking just because they won a football game.
Anyway, I digress.
Onto Broncos talk!
If you have Ruggs and Wirfs somehow both sitting there at 15, which player do you take? I’m all about speed and more weapons! Take some O-linemen later in the draft and get some dynamic play makers. I do have some worry though from how we saw the Colts handle Andrew Luck for years not giving him protection, which ruined his body and led to an early retirement. I’m torn! As I type this I think I would actually go O-line if there is a good prospect there in the first and take WR’s later since it’s so deep, and next year is deep for WR as well.
Before I change my mind again I’m going to end it here.
Thanks guys, and I can’t wait for the draft! Favorite time of the year.

I’m just here for Mase’s butt slap breakdowns
