That was definitely a disappointing game but it doesn’t really change who this team is for me. They’ve got a lot of young talent and a good defensive scheme but an average qb and bad offensive scheme. altogether they’re an inconsistent fringe playoff contender.

The real question is what’s their best move for the future. Wilson or Rodgers are definitely the best options, though giving Tua a year is intriguing. However if those aren’t possible i want Denver to take advantage of their stock of second and third round picks to take a shot at one of these qbs in the 2nd or third, if none of them separates themselves, with the understanding they will jump on a qb next year in the first round if possible or if this guy doesn’t flash.

Then they have a first rounder and three other top 100 picks to fortify the lines and maybe add to the secondary.

I’d replace Vic, but if they don’t they have to bring in an offensive mind and essentially make him head coach of the offense. Thoughts?

Am I the only one who is not THAT excited about some of our “cornerstone” guys right now?

1. Courtland Sutton. Just about every week I see a play from him where he seems to be letting up early on a route and he’s far too often disappeared from games. I understand QB play hasn’t been great and that he’s coming off of an injury, but for a guy that we expect to be a premier player in this league he just doesn’t show up enough, especially in critical moments. Still a smart hedge by Paton to re-sign him at the value that we did, but I feel like we’ll look back in a couple years thinking maybe the value wasn’t as great as we hoped.

2. Bradley Chubb. Great guy, great teammate, really good athlete, but he can’t stay healthy and when he is on the field, he hasn’t been as disruptive or impactful as a 5th overall pick should be. I wince a bit at the thought of re-signing him, I fear Bradley Chubb the draft prospect will raise the price of Bradley Chubb the NFL player and with the mid/late round resources we’ve spent on much more productive front 7 players, I don’t really see him being a key piece of this team long term.

3. Noah Fant. Not much to say here, he’s a combine warrior but lacks the toughness and football skills that make his imposing measurables so valuable in the first place. We drrafted his carbon copy a year later in the 4th round and he looks much more like the guy we thought we were getting in Fant.

4. Justin Simmons. I’m going to take a lot of heat for this one and I do think he’s a really, really, good player and even better dude, but he doesn’t make a lot of game-changing plays and when I think about premier safeties in the league, I think about guys who are tone-setters or often make game breaking plays in big moments and I haven’t seen a ton of that from Justin, as solid and steady as he’s been.

All 4 of these guys are good football players, but I feel like this team is seriously lacking dynamism and pop for a roster that’s so talented.

Well, as bad as yesterday looked, it’s to be expected and there is room to be excited for the future .I just want to beat the chiefs to close out the year. They are my most hated team in the division.

I was going to turn this comment into giant trash talk of KC as a location (it sucks), it’s bbq is overrated, and Hill is horrible but I’ll save my vitriol and focus elsewhere.

Just further confirmation that we don’t have the horses needed offensively. Short of getting Wilson, I’d love to have Teddy to mentor a rookie next year. I think that could be his ideal role. He’s a consummate professional who I think tries his best, just not IT.

If Vic turns things around, more power to him but I’d like to see Bowles as HC next year. I could even be convinced to bring in Mike Zimmer. These aren’t attractive young offensive minds but they are competent and I think we need grown ups in the room, especially if we have a young QB.

Rookie HC + Rookie QB seems ill-advised. Especially in this QB class.

The sexy picks like McVay or Shannahan might make the Garopollos/Goffs look above average but they are few and far between. There is something to be said about a grown up with experience coming in and stabilizing things in a competent manner. If you hit on a rookie QB (or get Wilson) that non-sexy hire will look great anyways!

Also, big plus, bringing in Zimmer all but guarantees that we’re NOT bringing in Kirk.

I think you should have started counting at zero in your list of who’s to blame. Starting at zero we have John Elway as a general manager.

If you look at the last decade of how the Chiefs have been run and compare it to how the Broncos have been run, the difference is night and day. The Chiefs found the coach while we’re on our fourth and soon to be fifth. They found the quarterback while we get dizzy from riding the quarterback carousel. Even the Chiefs defense is pretty good.

How long have we been struggling to build a decent offensive line? The Chiefs managed to do a complete rebuild in a single season and somehow did better.

I love Elway as a quarterback but at some point we have to accept that his only talent as a general manager was signing Manning. That won us a Super Bowl, but we’ve been adrift since then.

My boys! After such a tough loss it’s hard to stay positive but I think I have something that will cheer some people up. My friend Phil is a die hard Chargers fan and we made a bet before the Chargers-Broncos game that whoever won would wear the opposing teams jersey for a day. Obviously we got the huge win and I finally got a chance to catch up with Phil yesterday and bring him my Champ Bailey jersey to wear. He had a good attitude about the whole thing even though he had to take his girlfriend out on a date with the jersey on ? It’s not everyday you meet a Chargers fan, and certainly not everyday you see one wearing a Broncos jersey. Big shouts out to Phil for being a great sport and not backing out on a bet.

That game stinks! Got an idea, let me know thoughts.

If you don’t have a true # 1 QB, why not go with a 3 QB system?

QB 1- the between the 20’s quarterback. Specialized in moving the offense on a drive.

QB 2- Red zone quarterback. Athletic and can make short throws and the offense can be creative getting the ball in the hands of the playmakers.

QB 3- Deep throw quarterback in situations where the long ball is needed and take deep shots. Also the backup to QB 1.

I know it’ll never happen but if you are in a situation where you don’t have a QB that can do all 3, BRONCOS, why not? Whatcha think? Theoretically of course because we all know Shurmer isn’t creative enough for this.

Why is there not much love for Sam Howell? He came into the season as the presumed #1 or #2 QB in this class but had a down year and his stock seems to have taken a nosedive and I have no clue why.

He’s a 3 year starter, has a plus arm, good athleticism, has 91 career TDs to 23 interceptions and completed 64% of his passes with 9.2 YPA. He had a statistically down year passing this season after losing a lot of his supporting cast but managed to rush for over 800 yards and 11 TDs. If I had to bet on any of these guys based on their body of work and skill set I’d bet on Howell and I could see him playing effectively in many schemes. I think if he’s there in the mid first round he’d be worth the pick and possibly even trading up. Where do you guys stand on Howell?

To keep this sort of vague/as friendly as possible, it really irritates me when a member of the media is essentially state-sponsored propaganda for a team, however it is much more enjoyable when RK absolutely DUNKS on them in a quote tweet. Seriously, well done sir.

I’m glad someone else pointed out the lack of awareness by Dumpster Juice Bridgewater in checking down on a free play. If you didn’t believe before that moment that he doesn’t have it, then you’re more than likely either related to Teddy or are a complete masochist.

Finally, Javonte Williams is both my spirit animal and my Patronus.

Hey guys, reposting from yesterday.

What a disappointing loss. But there’s reason for hope. – at least the optimist in me says so.

It’s frustrating, that the offense let a golden opportunity to seize control of the division slip away, but it looks like the defense is starting to play consistently good to great defense.

Let’s assume a win over the Lions next week. Then we get the Bengals at home – they haven’t exactly been consistently good. The Raiders are now back to being the Raiders and you never know what can happen against the Chargers.

If Shurmur finally figured out we need to run the ball and Teddy can play like he has for most of the season (this past Sunday excluded) I think the offense can produce enough against our remaining opponents.

I know we are two games back in the division now, but is it so hard to see a scenario where the Chiefs come to town in week 18 in another battle for the divisions crown?

Chiefs remaining opponents: Bengals, Raiders, Chargers, Steelers, Broncos.

Thanks for the great work as always!

My boys,

Sunday sucked. No doubt about it. The most disappointing thing is that this game was within reach for nearly three quarters and then just like Thanos snapping his fingers it was all over.

Yesterday you talked about who is most to blame and I could not help notice a couple things. I felt like the play calling became so predictable and teddy was telegraphing where he wanted to go nearly every play. 2 point conversion to Noah fant. Everyone knew watching at home it was going to him as soon as he went in motion. Teddy’s incomplete to Tim Patrick in the end zone on the near side, I was screaming at the TV when I see Courtland sutton AND Noah fant with their arms up wide open. It’s the predictable offense right now that is really killing us in my opinion. I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it logic doesn’t apply here.

That’s it for now. Cheers boys and go dnvr!

Teddy is getting the broken down Manning treatment from defenses. Do not give them the sideline fade ball. Make him throw intermediate routes in the middle of the field and you have the upper hand. And Teddy is obviously not PFM so I dont see how he can overcome it.

My question for you guys. If we land an elite vet QB is keeping Vic the 100% right call? Keeping the defensive continuity and letting him get this defense even better in 2022 would be worth it especially if you have an elite QB who would cover any of Vic’s head coaching warts, i.e. challenge flags, clock management, etc.

Guys, super disappointed in the Offensive incompetency on Sunday. However, at this point in the season I’ve just decided to look to the future and enjoy the wins as (if) they happen.

Also, I’m getting married this weekend! Short story time: in the first few weeks of our relationship, my soon to be wife discovered that the Broncos were playing the Titans in Nashville. (yes, the AJ Derby fumble game) I had no plans to make it to the game despite the short 3 hr. drive, but she immediately bought us tickets and I had an amazing time. I also met her parents on that trip and it is to this day one of the highlights of our relationship despite the loss.

Here’s to hoping my wedding weekend is capped off with a Broncos beatdown of the Jared Golf Lions. Go DNVR!

My boys!

Do you think we’re seeing Teddy play at his highest ability? I know that statistically he’s having his best season, but obviously stats don’t tell the whole story. Do you think that, if the Broncos bring in a new OC in the off-season, we could see Teddy take a big step in his actual play? Or do you think Pat Shurmer has been done a disservice by shackling him to Drew and Teddy? I want to blame Pat for bad play and bad play calling, but I don’t want to be unfair to him and give him undue blame.

Thanks for a fun environment last night! The bar was popping, as usual. God bless and go DNVR, the Broncos, all of Broncos country, and the ever elusive Iceman, wherever he may be.

What happened to Netane Muti? He was supposed to see the field way before Meinerz. Now, Meinerz, who was supposed to have a redshirt year, is starting ahead of him?

My boys!

So obviously Pookie is a monster & he proved that last night. Marshawn Lynch 2.0 is what I see. I can’t even imagine the damage he’s going to do whenever we get a real QB and teams have to account for the pass too. That being said we need to go get our own Creed Humphrey. Cush just ain’t it. I’d love to get Tyler Linderbaum out of Iowa. Or maybe we try Risner at C?

Squad!

With minshew playing well Sunday night (I know, just against the lowly jets) does this increase the likelihood of the eagles drafting a qb high this year and trading Hurts? They could use minshew as a bridge if they don’t like his long term projection. If so, how does a Hurts / Kellen Moore led offense sound for next year? This question is based off of eagles fans inexplicable ire towards Hurts, granted I haven’t watch too many of his games but I think he looks good.

I’m playing spano in the madden league this week wish me luck against the human thumb boys!
