Here’s why Teddy Bridgewater sees similarities between Javonte Williams and Alvin Kamara

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Teddy Bridgwater knows what a dominant running back looks like. Heck, at every stop he’s had in the NFL, he’s been teammates with some of the game’s elite.

In his sevens years in the NFL, he’s been next to Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook, All-Pro Alvin Kamara and All-Pro Christian McCaffrey.

He believes he’s next to another very special back in Denver.

“I get asked about Javonte [Williams] often and I told someone—I don’t want to make it seem like I’m reaching or anything, but he possesses some of those qualities that you see in Alvin Kamara,” Bridgewater said on Wednesday, raising eyebrows across Colorado.

Since entering the NFL in 2017, Kamara has been one of the most dangerous players in the entire NFL. That’s who Bridgewater sees in Denver’s rookie back.

Kamara has been a Pro Bowler all four years he’s been in the NFL. He’s also been a two-time Second-Team All-Pro. Oh, he was also the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Not too bad of a comp for Denver’s rookie back.

“He’s a guy, man, he’s extremely smart,” Bridgewater said, continuing to sing the praises of Williams. “He catches the ball well out of the backfield. He runs good routes. He has a low center of gravity. He’s strong. He knows how to set up blocks.”

Kamara and Williams have quite a few similarities too. As Bridgewater stated, both have a low center of gravity as Williams 5-foot-10, 220-pound frame is similar to Kamara’s 5-foot-10, 215-pound frame. Both were Day 2 picks. And both are dangerous on the ground.

But what really takes Kamara over the top is his threat as a receiver out of the backfield. In his four seasons in the NFL, not only has Kamara averaged 835 rushing yards per year, he’s averaged 706 receiving yards per year on top of that. Bridgewater not only sees a dangerous runner in Williams, but he pointed to Javonte’s ability out of the backfield as well.

“He’s only a rookie. His ceiling is so high,” Bridgewater stated confidently. “He has great coaching as well. This coaching staff is doing a great job of grooming him and preparing him for what’s in store for this season.”

Even with Pro Bowler Melvin Gordon already on the team, George Paton and the Broncos thought so highly of Williams they traded up in the first-round to snag him. It’s no surprise Javonte Williams’ teammates already see a very special talent in the rookie.
