Another good and insightful article. I definitely do not want Suter if he would be a toxic personality in the locker room. Otherwise he could be good in the limited 3rd pair role and P.K. unit you discussed. Glad EJ waived. Offseason is about to get interesting.

If it works out that Graves is either traded or claimed then yes, I would have a lot of interest in signing him. That being said I think it would only be fair to to both sides to have that earnest conversation involving Sakic, Bednar, and Landy at the very least as to what his role would be on the team. I really think if you could bring him in as a 3-6 d-man with a heavy emphasis on the PK and very few (if any) opportunities on the PP I bet those numbers would actually improve as he has one area of focus. The lure of winning a Cup has a strong influence on a lot of players and I bet that he isn’t an exception to that. You also eliminate almost all of the puck moving issues you had with nearly everyone who played D last season outside of Makar, Girard, Toews, and Byram so it would actually be an upgrade in that aspect. Personally, I would be willing to give him up to 2 years somewhere between league minimum and $1.25 per.

One technical question I have though is does he really have to wait until the 28th to talk to or sign with another team? As of the buy out isn’t he now officially now without a contract? The 28th is important as the CBA has set that day as the end of the league year and thus all existing contracts either expire or roll into the next season and thus the beginning of free agency. Isn’t it different with buy outs?

No. No thank you. Not even one little bit. I’ve already seen locker room cancer cost the Avs a cup in 99, no need for it to happen again.
