this article is incredible and has me absolutely pumped for the series. I think the Blues are going to be absolutely crushed because MacKinnon will flip the switch and become a beast. and I feel this team wants nothing to do with a game 7 and try and take these series out as quick as possible.

Great write up AJ.

On the grit and physicality point – i keep reading it everywhere in other series previews, and in the StL player comments, but of course, that is the approach that every team has been trying against the Avalanche all year long. It’s not like we are just now reaching the playoffs and people are noticing that the Avs rely on speed and skill. Teams have been trying to kill Sammy G for months now. The Avs are not going to be surprised by it. Will it work against the Avs? Well, if the injuries rack up, or if the Avs lose their cool.

And on that latter point, one thing the Avs don’t really have is much of an agitator game. Lots of focus on how the Avs will deal with that nonsense, which is fine, but not much going back the other way without Calvert. The Avs aren’t planning to annoy the other team’s top players, just beat them. I mostly think that is ok.

Or maybe I’m not recognizing what Jost/Nuke/Kadri can do.

AJ…
I want to chime in on a couple of things;
First, I want to thank you and everyone on the Avs beat @ DNVR for your enthusiastic coverage of the team.
I’ve had a weird disconnect from the team this year. Every game has been on, but they were often just background noise as I mostly dipped in & out of viewing.
And I’ve only read a few of the numerous Avs articles you folks have done.
I believe this is the first time I’ve commented this year.
I have, however, listened to every podcast — even the prospect pods…and prospect stuff usually bores me to tears.
In a year when lots of people have used whatever sports were available to escape from the pandemic grind, I had trouble finding space in my head to get totally lost in hockey.

Second, it seems I’m one of very few people who have concerns about Avs in the playoffs.
I know the team won every series against the better teams in the West, but I’m having trouble letting myself get caught up in the Avs being a THE team to beat when so much of of of the teams’ success came from running over the weak sisters in the West.
When I look at the standings of the other divisions, they all look to be pretty similar with a couple of monsters at the top followed by a couple that were a notch below, and then the bottom feeders. So I would probably have the same concerns if I was a fan of a top team in another division.
Don’t know, maybe I’m just trying to not set my expectations too high in case the Avs don’t get to where we all want them to go.
As I said, it’s been a weird year.

Keep up the great work, I (and so many others) truly enjoy & appreciate what you guys churn out!

Can we get 3,000 words on Justus Annunen’s play with the Eagles?
