Paxton’s Patch
Hey boys, guess we all saw the TB trade coming at some point. I actually love the move and the price we paid. When we signed Keenum and then Flacco, the Broncos did not follow up on those moves by drafting a QB. (Although Lock was there with Flacco) Here’s hoping Paton doesn’t follow suit. This is a good team. Let’s throw one more dart at QB position. Draft Fields/Lance if available.

Unrelated NFL question:
This question is for Ryan, but Zac and Mase feel free to voice your opinions.
As the most lit person I have access to, can you please confirm if poor grammar is a flex move on Twitter / social media or is the world just devolving as a collective?
Over share – I’m going to get the snip today. Timed it nicely to have three days on the couch watching your live show and the draft!
Cheers boys!

My prediction:
Denver trades up with Detroit, takes a QB, and Drew lock is in that deal. Atlanta will stay pat and take the best pound-for-pound player in the draft (Pitts). Cincy will not want to lose out on an asset for Burrow (Chase or a tackle), and Miami will feel the same about Tua (grab an Alabama WR). Those two teams trading down too far will lose out on helping their young QBs. Miami traded back up to 6 for a reason. I think they would be open to trading with us at 9, but I don’t think we need to trade to 6. Detroit is the spot. Won’t cost much at all, and Drew Lock would be surplus if we draft a QB at 7. It is a Paton-esque move: pay very little, get a lot. Carolina frightens me due to who they could trade back with, so I think we need to get to 7. And so, that’s my prediction. Whatcha think?

From a comment from the other pod yesterday that came in before the Teddy Trade…
#9 + Drew Lock + Tim Patrick to Detroit for #7, who says no?

Patrick Sustain II, is a great pick. Trading back made more sense, but let’s not forget how good Sustain is. Incredibly fluid, can tackle really well, good zone coverage. We’ll lose a CB or two next off season, and how many injuries at that position did we have last year?
Very good pick. Paton keeps on impressing with his not flashy, but sensible moves. We’re in good hands, people

Relatively disgusted at the state of Broncos Twitter and Instagram. Really hope surtain isn’t discouraged reading all the comments calling this a terrible pick. I understand people wanted to go QB but Fields clearly wasn’t the Broncos guy.
Maybe we can go back to rooting for drew now. You can adjust Drew’s stats for the modern era but that can’t really account for the first substantial pandemic in 100 years and a coach as stubborn as shurmur. Lock has the team behind him and the benefit of a full off season let’s see what he can do in training camp and possibly the season.

Jesus H man, broncos Twitter and Instagram is so toxic it almost makes me ashamed to be a part of this fanbase. If I’m not mistaken we’ve been to 11 Super Bowls and have won 3. Obviously this organization knows what they are doing generally speaking. See Browns, Lions, Texans, and Jaguars for teams that don’t. Surtain is a good pick. I’m okay if we give Lock another shot, but I’m also totally okay if we get Aaron F****** Rodgers!!! Let’s go. I think Paton is doing a great job and people need to relax.

Also is it possible that we can still get Rodgers? Lol. When is the earliest and latest it could happen and what would it take???
Thanks y’all, as always love the content thanks for all you guys do
Andrew Mason
Definitely possible, but nothing happens until after June 2. The variable is if teammates can convince Rodgers to return.

Reports showing the we “loved Fields” but liked PS2 even more. If true, shoot the whole front office into the sun. How do you pass on a QB you love for yet another CB. Unforgivable. Also it appears Elway had more say than we originally thought.
I never found myself in the “apathetic” crowd, but its getting hard for me to continue believing in Elway/Paton/Fangio/Broncos.
If we don’t get Rodgers, what can fans do to show our displeasure? This org is turning into a joke.

Hypothetically, if in the NFL Draft there was a punter who always downed the ball at the 1 yard line (no matter what or how far), would you use your 1st pick for him?
Count Bridgeula
Yes. Hell yes.

Perhaps for Rodgers’ own healing and personal sanity he needs to hang it up. As Primo Levi once said …
“The bond between a man and his profession is similar to that which ties him to his country; it is just as complex, often ambivalent, and in general it is understood completely only when it is broken: by exile or emigration in the case of one’s country, by retirement in the case of a trade or profession.”

Comrades, we will not all agree on many a topic both now and forever, but let’s all agree to trust in the immortal words of Warren Zevon and not take the beautiful little details about our daily lives for granted …

Hey guys you did an awesome Job this year was different because the Aaron Rodgers has everyone feeling sketch about what’s gonna happen but Dammit I’m going to say what no one is paying attention to enuff I’m my opinion ….
Sider bar : THANK U RYAN U WERE RIGHT !!! Patrick Surtain the player is awesome and shame on broncos country for the negative energy he didn’t ask to be picked and it’s unfair to him I’m blown away by how mature and how much of a pro he is ALREADY ! HE WAS MADE FOR THIS …and I’m excited for him
But my main thing I want to adress is …. This is a wildcard team without Rodgers and a Superbowl team with him ….. Because …..what no one is addressing in my opinion ……
IS THE IMMENSE AMOUNT OF COMPETITION GEORGE PATON HAS BROUGHT TO THIS TEAM ! IN ONE OFF SEASON ! …..
I’d start Javonte Williams week one over Melvin this dude’s special !
Ojemediia is gonna have to compete if he plans to see any part of the field
I love Noah but if Albert O is healthy he will be competing !
Baron Browning wants to start I’m sure Strnad wants to prove we don’t need a Joke he’s already on the roster ….
Jamar and Caden wanna be that third saftey !!!
I think that Seth Williams is special he looks special
Cush job clearly isn’t safe neither is Glassgow with muti
Oh and our special teams For the love of God has some serious players now that’s Huge !
And drew and teddy we know wassup unless Aaron Rodgers is on the way ? ??♂️
Come week one !!!!???? The roster we put on the field will be ready battle tested and competitive and I don’t understand why enuff people aren’t talking about that
It’s just Aaron Rodgers and Justin fields well dammit I like this team as is Rodgers is a major bonus but Paton has given us more then we can ask for and I need everyone to r.e.l.a.x. (Aaron Rodgers voice ) give Paton a chance ! Geesh
Love your coverage and love the pods leading into the season I’m excited ??

Screw the draft! not because I think it was a bad one, I think it was pretty good, but screw the draft because its not what I want to talk about today! Wanted to let you all know that Tuesday evening I proposed and now have a Fiance. Best moment ever.
Todays quote comes from the office, and it is an iconic one. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take- Wayne Gretzky” – Michael Scott
What is one thing you guys regret not taking the shot on, and what do you think the Broncos biggest regret will be at this time next year? Possibly not drafting a QB?
PismoBeachBroncos07
Its really hard tonpretwnd i care at all about this draft. Its all ive been thinking about for months. My hopes were sky high, especially when the Rodgers drama started. I was so depressed after them passing on QB and not getting Rodgers. It just doesnt make sense. Honestly how could you ever make a luxury pick on a position player over Fields? I honestly couldnt even watch past our pick at #9 anymore. If the Panthers took Surtain do you think we would have taken Fields? Im really hoping not to get apathetic. All this Fields and Rodgers talk has really made it obvious how bleak our QB situation really is…..
Auszee
I was a fan of taking a QB and was thoroughly disappointed we passed on Fields and Mac. Then I slept on it and gave it thought.
Atlanta with an aging QB passed on both
Miami with young QB who was average at best last year passed on both
Detroit with Jared “freaking” Goff passed on both
Carolina with only Darnold passed on both
Denver passes on both
Philly with only Jalen Hurts passed on both
Chicago Bears trade up… Their track record isn’t that good right?
My question is this. Is slow processing speed an NFL term for low football IQ in regards to Fields? I understand not picking Jones, as Teddy and him are similar. I’m have this gut feeling that we passed on Fields cause he’s a great athlete, but may lack the key mental skills needed to be great. Jeff George type, massive talent, but maybe not the mindset to be great. Just a theory, but it would make sense as to why we passed.
The only thing I fault Paton on, was not moving up to 3 before the 9ers and getting Lance. He did an amazing job on the picks we had.

hey guys!
first of all, thanks for the draft coverage these past few days! just wanted to share a few thoughts i had;
1) one of my favorite moments of the draft is when the eagles war room was shown during the milton williams pick and the senior director of player personnel is visibly mad at howie for not picking his guy. this was rumored to be aaron robinson who the giants traded up with the broncos for
2) the broncos signed andre mintze as an udfa. i really don’t think there was much of a drop off between him and his teammate dayo odeyingbo who went in the 2nd round despite a torn achilles in january. they always say follow the money so this could be the udfa that makes noise this year
3) mr b
4) dre mentioned that caden sterns might better suit corner in a similar way l’jarius sneed went back from safety to corner with the chiefs. looking at the athletic profiles, they’re almost identical. only difference is that sterns didn’t play corner in college so there’s more projection involved but i can see it
5) i’m glad the broncos did the right thing and didn’t end up offering landon rice a deal even though he was one of the best blocking TEs this year. filled a significant need but they didn’t allow that to be clouded by off-field issues. if only teams like dallas thought the same way smh

My dudes!
Congrats and thank you for providing the best draft content out there. My fiance watched the live show for the first round with me, and she’s decided we have to visit the bar next time we’re in Denver!
My main takeaway from the draft is this: Paton had an incredibly diverse draft. He picked an elite player, a few with high upside and excellent character, and a few with potential that will need to be developed. I think the biggest benefit this will bring the Broncos is in Special Teams play and depth! What say you?
PigTosser66
Excellent draft coverage fellas!! Superb. Magnificent. Outstanding. Enter whatever other adjective that fits.
I wanted Fields. Boy did I want Fields. But if they didn’t love him then they didn’t love him. Surtain was a good pick and a great player. I don’t think he was the right pick but he was a good pick.
Paton clearly practices the philosophy of filling glaring holes in free agency and building your team’s core talent in the draft. I like how he operates and I think we have some talented players in the building.
Last thing gotta talk current QBs of course. Ignoring Rodgers talk, this QB battle is going to be something. My take is Drew’s floor is 2020 Drew and his ceiling is Matt Stafford. Teddy’s floor is Teddy Bridgewater and his ceiling is Teddy Bridgewater. Couldn’t have two more different QBs. Did Drew improve enough to beat Steady Teddy??? Stay tuned…..
