Hey AJ, yeah last night was frustrating no doubt. I wonder if we are finally seeing the full effect of the Avs prospect system failing to develop bottom six draft choice picks into NHL players on ELCs over the last few years. Whether it is because the players are not good enough or seizing the moment or they are not being developed well and not being giving a chance to develop in the NHL I am not smart enough to say. I have to wonder what Martin Kaut’s career would be like if the Avs had played him the one more game to burn that extra year off of his ELC when he had a decent nine game showing and then played him into the playoffs. Did that kill his confidence as he was sent back to the AHL or would he have cratered in the NHL eventually? Mere speculation maybe, maybe not.
Regardless, the Avs are now in a position where it seems they HAVE to develop prospects (Kaut, Meyers, Bowers and add any name here) in the NHL. It is just that Bednar is not giving them the minutes and as you guys said on the pod, they are throwing the top guys out there all the time and running them into the ground. That is a solution that will not end very well. I think it is time to give these young guys the minutes to learn and grow and we as fans and the Avs as a team are going to have to deal with the growing pains. Better now while it is early in the season. Patience will be required says I. What say you.

I agree. development is the key, and that requires patience.
