To me, the burek looks more like a filo dough dish which is a thin dough, laminated with melted butter before baking. It’s the same type of dough as baklava which many people are familiar with and actually similar to strudel dough which is another dough that’s laminated meaning that it has layers of fat between layers of dough to cause flakiness, but in strudel dough or puffed pastry, the layers of fat are solid and melt while baking, but in filo dough, the fat is added between the finished dough and is premelted (or might be olive oil that is liquid at room temperature) before baking.

I’ve never had burek, though and I really want to try it now. I wonder if there’s a place to get it in Denver.
