The 5th possible ownership group was announced, and while they don’t have the capital that Rob Walton has, Mat Ishbia would in my opinion be the best option for Broncos fans. Let’s look at what he built.
UWM (United Wholesale Mortgage) had 12 employees when he started in 2003. Today they have over 9,000 employees. He grew UWM to become the 2nd largest mortgage lender in the country and the largest wholesale lender in the country.
Now if he follows the strategy he used for UWM with the Broncos, we will be a winner for many years to come. A few highlights on how he built them
1-Hired talent around him to help build the company.
2-Listens to the talent around him (Anti-Dan Snyder/Jerry Jones)
3-He invested in the company (UWM has by far the best tech available for mortgage brokers)
4-Listens to what his customers (Fans in our case) want. He created a system in which mortgage brokers (his customers) can share ideas, and implements when they make sense.
5-Invests in his customers-UWM has delivered technology free of charge to mortgage brokers to help them grow. He has a development team over 120 deep that is always working on developing additional technology.
In addition, many don’t realize Mat also in a National Champion. He was part of the 2000 Michigan State National Championship basketball team (Although a reserve with very limited time). Mateen Cleaves credits Mat with helping him come back from injury stronger than ever due to Mat’s relentlessness in working with Mateen during his recovery.
These traits are what in my opinion make a great leader we want. Lets remember, guys like Robert Kraft and Pat Bowlen didn’t come from a strong football background, just great leaders that built great organizations.
