The Denver Nuggets will bring in Duke guard Tyus Jones for a pre-draft workout Monday afternoon according the team.
Jones, a 6-foot-1 guard from Duke helped lead the Blue Devils to a national championship and averaged 11.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.6 assists his freshman year.
The Minnesota native was also named most outstanding player of the 2015 Final Four.
Jones is heralded for his intelligence on the floor, his game management skills and his ability to run an efficient and effective offense. He was tasked with distributing the ball between future lottery picks Jahlil Okafor and Justice Winslow last season at Duke.
The Nuggets currently hold the seventh overall selection of the first round and the 57th overall selection in the second round.
Jones is projected by many to go in the middle or late first round of Thursday’s NBA draft and although Denver currently doesn’t hold a pick in that range, the Nuggets are keeping all their options on the table when it comes to possible trades.
“The variables come when you get one phone call and the best-laid plans go out of the window,” Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly recently said. “But we’re pretty active and aggressive. We’ve got a lot of calls out there and a lot of scenarios in play. I can’t say for certain that where we stand today is where we’re going to stand on draft night.”
The Denver Posts’ Christopher Dempsey also wrote that adding another first round pick is a scenario that’s in play.
“Adding an additional pick in the first round is a distinct possibility, particularly with a roster of players coveted enough around the league that could land the Nuggets another selection,” said Dempsey. “And while most are focused on trade possibilities at the top of the draft, there are also those just under the Nuggets’ selection that could allow them to add another pick late in the lottery.
