Game two for the Avalanche players suited up for Team Canada was a 10-0 shelling of Team Germany. To those familiar with the disparity in skill between Canada’s top league and Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga this won’t come as a surprise.

Despite the 4100 or so miles separating Canada from the Czech Republic, there were an impressive number of Canadian supporters at O2 Arena for the match. Matt Duchene continued to make his presence known for Team Canada with a four point night.

Sidney Crosby opened up the scoring for Canada in the first period, and Duchene assisted on the next goal with a long-distance pass to set up Taylor Hall.

Hall would score a hat trick before the final buzzer sounded, and his third goal came off a textbook-perfect feed from Duchene as the period wound down.

As seen in the clip below, Duchene flips the puck up saucer-style across the entire crease to a wide-open Hall, who completes his hat trick with style:

Duchene ended the game on a high note for both Canada and Avalanche fans. The only goal scored in the third period was a beauty of a penalty shot that Duchene was awarded courtesy of Germany’s Stephan Daschner. Duchene lost his grip on his stick and it was knocked away from him. When he tried to recover it, Daschner slapped it out of his reach. For those unfamiliar with how tightly IIHF games are called, an infarction that might result in a slashing minor in the NHL resulted in this:

Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie were kept off the scoresheet this time, but Ryan O’Reilly also notched two assists. The World Championships continue in Prague until the 17th of May.
