Reggie Walker signs one-year deal with Broncos

[/vc_bunyad_ads][vc_column_text]The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers are involved in a game of chicken.

It started two seasons ago when executive vice president/general manager John Elway signed guard Louis Vasquez from the Chargers. For the sake of our little game, it was in response to San Diego hiring then-Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy as its head coach.

This offseason has been no different. In fact, one could make the argument the stakes have risen. The Chargers have signed Orlando Franklin and Mitch Unrein to contracts that take them away from the Broncos.

Well, Elway and Denver responded on Thursday when they signed linebacker Reggie Walker to a one-year deal.

Walker played the last two seasons with San Diego, and last year had his best season in the NFL. He finished with a career-high 36 tackles, three sacks and fumble recovery. Prior to joining the Chargers, Walker was with the Arizona Cardinals (2009-2012) as an undrafted free agent from Kansas State University.

Walker gives the Broncos good depth at linebacker and he’s a solid contributor on special teams (he has 25 stops in that phase of the game). Don’t put too much stock in the Pro Football Focus grades on him. He brings experience and depth to both the Denver defense and special teams.

The other aspect he brings, you did notice he was an undrafted free agent (seeing a pattern here from Elway?), he will kick and scream. He will bring fight to the Broncos that Elway desires and believes is missing from his roster.

Of course, it was reported after Denver signed Walker that San Diego was meeting with former Broncos linebacker Joe Mays.
