“What makes this play great” is a brand new series I will be doing here at DNVR in which I break down in detail a single play, moment, or sequence from a Denver Nuggets game and explain all of the subtle details that you might’ve missed the first time around. You can check out episode one right here.
Today’s episode is on a very simple action that the Nuggets run to free up a shooter at the top of the key. While the play itself is extremely simple, the devil is in the details and the play often succeeds or fails based on what the Nuggets do after the initial action.

Great stuff Adam! Food for thought – I would find it interesting in these to see one or two examples of a defense successfully snuffing out the play to contrast against the successes in these features. You get it a little with the spot where they had to pivot into the dribble hand off, but nothing where the defense truly took it away.
That’s a really good idea. I’ll keep it in mind throughout the year since it often provides a chance to talk about WHY a play didn’t work and how to counter it.

Adam, nice work. You seem happy in our new roll,
I’d love to see one of these focusing on what Joker does and how it’s unique vs other players in the league. Probably complex but just focus on one ore two things he does.
Congrats on the new gig.
This is a great idea. I’m sure it’ll come up throughout the year since Jokic does so many things that are unique. I’ll make sure to highlight them as I see them.
